Senior Engineer

Want to work in TV Broadcast Engineering and provide a valuable service to your community too? WVIZ/PBS ideastream, Clevelands Public TV station, is seeking an experienced engineer.


The successful candidate will have knowledge of BXF, routing systems, power distribution and related technologies. They will have the ability to perform in-depth maintenance on broad range of automation and routing equipment.

Also needed are:

  • Experience installing and supporting broadcast systems and equipment

  • High level of coding experience desired

  • Ability to maintain operations to FCC rules and regulations

  • Experience with digital asset management systems a plus

  • Degree or certification from a Technical Program preferred or at least 4+ years equivalent experience.

  • Preferred high level of experience with Ross Video systems and Crispin Automation

  • Knowledge of Protrack Meyers systems also a definite plus.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, good decision making and good interpersonal skills

Essential Duties include:

Repairs, maintains and calibrates equipment.

Assist with installation and routine, scheduled maintenance of broadcast equipment and systems.

Implements approved maintenance plans and procedures for equipment as recommended by manufacturers.

May be assigned to oversee or specialize in a specific area of the Engineering facilities or operations.

May serve as a technical advisor to other engineering personnel; provide technical assistance as needed in other areas.

Maintains Standard Operating Procedures and Quality of Service for assigned Engineering functions

Maintains updated technical wiring drawings and wire lists of assigned facilities or areas

Perform all Operator and Broadcast Engineer duties as required.

. Qualifications


Demonstrated knowledge of video, audio, automation systems, BXF routing systems, power distribution and related technologies.

Ability to perform in-depth maintenance on a broad range of TV broadcasting equipment.

Understanding of broadcast theory and practice. Proficiency working with digital asset management systems, processes and workflows

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot video and audio editing equipment and systems.

Experience with audio over IP systems and consoles,

Practical knowledge of waveform and vector scopes, steam scopes and spectrum analyzers

Practical knowledge of mpeg2, mpeg4, and asi transport stream and encoders preferred

Understanding of HD and SD video formats, analog AES as well as embedded audio, closed captioning rules and Program and System Information protocol desired.

Written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to identify and correct visual and audio problems. Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Decision making and problem solving skills required. Demonstrated ability to work well with others and meet deadlines required.


Moderate level of experience in TV broadcast engineering and production activities. High level of coding experience preferred.


Two year technical degree and/or 5 years of Broadcast Engineering or related field.

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Ability to see communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices. Physical ability for fine motor manipulation of tools. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders.
