The purpose of your role as an Accounting Specialist

As an Accounting Specialist, you will rotate throughout the corporate accounting department to learn each area of accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job cost) before moving into a general Accountant role. The timeframe for completing the rotation and moving into an Accountant role is 2-3 years to ensure understanding of each function.

While in each role, you will perform various accounting tasks within the department. The intent is to receive foundational knowledge of each accounting function at Harris. Accounting rotations and duties include:
  • Accounts Payable processing
  • Accounts Receivable processing including billing and cash application
  • Job cost set up and cost accounting duties
  • Actively participate in process improvement and system conversion activities and supporting others in the department

What we're looking for in you
  • Associates degree in Accounting or Business required and working toward a Bachelor's degree
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Basic understanding of accounting processes, procedures and internal controls
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in AP, AR or Job cost required
  • Experience in the construction industry and project accounting preferred
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational, accuracy, research and analytical skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly, learn new tasks independently, take initiative and take on increased responsibility as the role progresses through the rotation
