Student and Finance Service Centers


Salary Range: $2,710 - $4,906/Monthly


Work Schedule:The incumbent will work a 4/40 schedule. Full-time, hours and days to be determined; non-exempt classification.


Essential Functions: Under direction of the Associate Director and Cashier’s Office Lead, the incumbent performs accounting duties in the Cashiering Operation of the Student and Finance Service Centers. The incumbent interacts with students and various departments on campus answering questions and resolving problems. The incumbent uses the point of sale cashiering system to receive and issue receipts for monies; guards against the receipt of counterfeit monies; runs reports and balances transactions accurately; and ensures that policies and procedures with regards to the audit and control of cash are strictly adhered to. The incumbent will: serve as a liaison between the New Student Orientation Office and the Cashier’s Office; be responsible for working directly with the supervisor of the Orientation Office on procedures and policies pertaining to Student and Finance Service Centers. The incumbent is responsible for processing dishonored checks written and online payment reversals to the University. This process includes: making sure notices are sent to students informing them of the return checks; preparing dishonored checks files; promptly updating student accounts; submitting monthly dishonored check reports to Business Financial Services; and submitting appropriate accounts to Student Loans Services and Collections and the Franchise Tax Board. The incumbent will also be responsible for issuing duplicate request receipts, student accounts credit/debit clean-up; issuing departmental deposit bags and maintenance of department contracts for deposits, petty cash and change fund for the university.


Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to one year of clerical accounting or financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities. Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must have experience with Point of Sale cashiering system and possess excellent customer service skills. The incumbent must have the ability to: operate standard office machines, 10-key adding machines, and calculators; use desktop software including Word, Excel, and Access; review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards; compute and post numbers rapidly and accurately; maintain files and records; identify, trace, and correct errors; follow directions; interpret and apply written rules and regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgement in responding to others; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of record management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the positon. Incumbent must demonstrate the ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/ multiethnic working environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
