Anchor Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Expressive Therapist.

Established in 1986, Anchor Hospital specializes in the treatment of behavioral health and addictive disease disorders for teens, adults and seniors. Our mental health facility in Atlanta, Georgia is located on a secluded, 55-acre campus, less than three miles from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and is accredited by the Joint Commission. Our continuum of services includes a 24/7 free, confidential psychiatric assessment by Georgia behavioral health professionals. Anchor Hospital is a proud supporter of the National Action Alliance on Suicide Prevention. We provide Georgia behavioral health education and resources to help improve the communities we serve.

The Activity/Expressive Therapist will serve as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and provide therapeutic expressive therapy services to patients.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement expressive therapy treatment plans that are age appropriate and consistent with overall treatment goals.
  • Maintain the clinical and administrative documentation associated with performed services.
  • Assist in keeping supplies and equipment organized and in working condition.
  • Will adhere to all safety policies and safe work practice.
  • Will adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support facility internal and external customer service standards.
  • Follow Anchor Hospital Time and Attendance policy.


Education: Masters degree in expressive therapy field (Recreational Therapy, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, etc.; certification or license not required but preferred); or Bachelors degree plus certification and/or license.

Experience: Preferred experience in behavioral health setting

License/Certification: Certification in applicable expressive therapy field preferred (CTRS; LPMT and MT-BC; R-DMT; ATR-P, ATR, ATR-BC; RDT) (mandatory with Bachelors degree)

Please note this position is an expressive therapy position requiring education and preferably credential/licensure in an expressive therapy discipline and not a counseling or social work position. Please do not apply if you do not have demonstrated education in a creative arts or activity therapy discipline.

Physical and Mental requirements of Job:

Able to stop, crouch, reach, walk, and stand for sustained periods of time; use extremities to press against something with steady force, as well as pull objects, using extremities to draw, drag, haul, or tug in a sustained motion; able to feel, grasp, and finger objects and lift them from a lower to higher position or horizontally from one position to another; express and exchange ideas via spoken or written work to convey detailed information in an audible and quick manner, able to make fine discriminations in sound and to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than a 40lb loss @Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz, with or without correction; able to substantially move wrist, hands and/or fingers in a repetitive motion.

Must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and occasionally exert up to 50 lbs. of force.

Visual Acuity:

Visual acuity required adequate for preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, characters on computer terminals, reading, and visual inspections necessary.

Physical Surroundings:

The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Emotional or Mental Stress:

Must be able to work with several distractions including light conversations. Must be able to deal with aggressive, hostile and irrational behaviors of patients. Must be able to respond immediately in crisis situations concerning patients and/or family members.

The worker may be subjected to environmental conditions that occur inside and outside via routine travel; much work, however, occurs inside under typical hospital conditions.
