How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Annuity Valuation Lead, AVP & Actuary will manage and oversee all aspects of the actuarial valuation (GAAP, Statutory, economic and Tax), financial reporting, and SOX compliance for the annuity business lines in the new organization. He or she will have responsibility of ensuring Brighthouse applies and meets the reserve and valuation standards under various reporting basis. This individual will report directly to the Head of Valuation, providing insights and advices regarding financial reporting changes in the industry. He/she will also collaborate with other department leads to achieve strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead reserving and financial reporting for the annuity lines of business products
  • Direct the team for quarterly valuation production duties for Statutory, Tax and GAAP financial reporting for the annuity business line
  • Track and review SOX and MAR controls to ensure quality and integrity of financial reports
  • Support Actuarial Transformation activities, such as valuation software and process migrations
  • Support data requests from reinsurance, controllers, pricing, and audit departments
  • Sign off on the GAAP, Statutory and Tax reserves results
  • Monitor changes in actuarial regulations and assess company standards to ensure compliance
  • Develop Strategies to address changes in actuarial regulations
  • Collaborate with other actuarial group heads such as Pricing and Actuarial Transformation, Experience Studies a, Client Solutions, and Corporate Projections to support the organization's strategic objectives
  • Lead the development of actuarial talent in the annuity valuation department

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • 7+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities within an actuarial department
  • Strong interpersonal and project/people management skills
  • Leadership experience in a large organization preferred
  • Experience in U.S. GAAP, Statutory and Tax reserving for variable and fixed annuities
  • Experience with valuation software such as Prophet, Pathwise, PolySystems etc.
  • Knowledge of Annuity insurance products
  • Knowledge of valuation and financial reporting processes
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Must have strong ability to make decisions; ability to consider multiple aspects while making business decisions
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
