Position: Under the general direction of the Dean of Arts and Letters, the Associate Dean (AD) is responsible for assisting the Dean in all aspects of College administration and management. The Associate Dean has primary responsibility for the following areas: curriculum, instruction, oversight of student affairs and advisement, outcomes assessment, program review, and scheduling/staffing Arts and Letters classes. The incumbent will: provide leadership in curriculum matters, such as development, revision, and coordination; provide guidance to department chairs on course scheduling; assists departments in formulating and forwarding curriculum changes; develop new course, options, and degree programs; and monitor, oversee, and coordinate review of catalog copy. The incumbent also provides leadership in all student matters, such as coordinating and overseeing College advisors and outreach activities; facilitating faculty/advisor participation in orientation; advising departments and faculty on policy and on individual student cases; dealing efficaciously with student petitions and grievances; and providing effective administration of student affairs. The AD will collaborate with the Dean and department chairs in the recruitment of prospective high school and community college students. The duties include attending recruitment and transfer fairs; working with feeder community colleges regarding course articulation; welcoming groups to campus; and speaking at events on behalf of the College. The incumbent also supervises Associate Dean’s Office staff, Director of Student Success and Advising, and the Internship Coordinator.


Required Qualifications and Experience: The incumbent must have a doctoral or other terminal degree in a discipline or area represented within the College from an accredited college or university. The incumbent must be qualified to be a tenured full professor in a department or program within the College of Arts and Letters. Familiarity with disciplines represented in the College of Arts and Letters; and University policies and regulations governing curriculum, instruction, and student affairs. Must possess excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated interest and ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications: Prior experience with enrollment management and course scheduling; and experience in arts or humanities department.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment: The Administrator III appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
