Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents is a unique acute care, inpatient specialty hospital with 110 licensed beds, including Med Surg. and Residential Treatment Center; staffed by the finest physicians and treatment teams. We treat patients, ages 2-22 who have chronic illnesses, brain injuries and neurobehavioral disorders with co-behavioral issues.

We have12 hour shift openings for a BehaviorHealth Technician. The shifts are: 7AM-7PM or 7PM-7AM. This person willassist in the direct care and management of children, adolescent and young adult patients (age 2 to 22 years) as prescribed by the physician and treatment team; to provide supervision, safety and crisis management for the patient population. Key Responsibilities:

  • Fulfills responsibilities to the hospital in adherence to philosophy and general policy.
  • Completes documentation and implementation of treatment plans ensuring the involvement and understanding by the patient by using correct terminology, daily logs, progress reports and submits appropriate written and verbal reports by required deadlines.
  • Ensures patients rights are observed by encouraging questions regarding treatment and explaining program. Works cooperatively as a member of multidisciplinary team.
  • Acts as advocate in providing safe delivery of care to promote wellness. Demonstrates the ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, ability to verbally de-escalate patient and to complete accurate, timely documentation. Provides supervision of the unit milieu.

Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and units as necessary, and ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Knowledge of principles of psychology and child growth and development are useful. Limit-setting, responding to children and adolescents in a caring, mature manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary. Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job.

Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

Experience:

Bachelor's degree and/or two years related experience with adolescents and children or relevant college coursework in a related field. Previous experience with emotionally disturbed, intellectual disabilities,or physically disabled persons preferred.

Licensure:

Current Virginia drivers licensure with a good driving record, CPR certification, First Aid certification and CNA licensure preferred.

Physical:

-Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Requirements:

-80-90% of the time, the incumbent is standing, walking, kneeling, or reaching while working with patient.

-Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical restraint of patients.
