Job Description

Cedar Hills Hospital and Outpatient Services - located just 15 minutes from downtown Portland - is a 94-bed, free-standing psychiatric hospital  and outpatient center specializing in mental health and substance use disorder treatment. We provide a wide range of services and programs that offer evidence-based treatment proven to have positive outcomes for our patients. Our inpatient and outpatient services offer supportive and compassionate care through specialty programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our patients. Our mission is to provide safe, effective, and compassionate mental health and substance use treatment.

Behavioral Health Coder for both Inpatient and Outpatient accounts. Analyzes health insurance records and assigns appropriate ICD-9-CM for diagnoses and procedures. Prepares billing statements, helps to resolve conflicts regarding payments and reimbursements, responds in writing and on the telephone to physician questions about billing. Investigates and reports inconsistencies in billing to appropriate staff, provides information and prepares documents for inquiries, ensures the confidentiality of patients' personal information, performs clerical duties that may include answering the telephone, greeting employee's, and sorting mail. Accurate data entry required to enter patient information into computer files, and also into paper records. Organizes, manages, and sorts paperwork (including patients' charts), and updates coding/billing in charts as needed. Will be utilized in other facets of HIM as backup to other positions (Analysis, Assembly, Physician Billing). Must be a team player in a very busy, small office. Fixed hours with some flexibility.

Job Requirements

Education: High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience. AAPC or AHIMA certified, RHIT or CCS.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years experience in behavioral health coding, knowledge of medical terminology, and an understanding of the clinical information environment.

Additional Requirements: Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of computer proficiency and word processing ICD-9-CM coding experience preferred.

Training: Successful completion of Crisis Management and Service Excellence training must occur within 90 days of employment and prior to assisting in any restraining procedures. May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
