Reporting into the President, Behavioral Health Division, the Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health (BH) Division will serve as the clinical leader for the most respected behavioral health provider in the United States. The Chief Medical Officer will collaborate with the Senior VP of Clinical Services to help craft next level models of care to define the future state of our Behavioral Health division. They will serve as a champion for quality outcome measures, drive clinical leadership and care advocacy, create new programs and lead the development of a nationally recognized training program for psychiatrists. In addition, they will drive thought leadership through white papers, training and collaborations with other healthcare systems.

Job Requirements
  • Medical Degree.
  • Minimum of eight or more years of clinical psychiatric practice participation AND management experience as a leader within a healthcare delivery system and/or a managed care organization.
  • Strong leadership skills required.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to perform presentations to various groups.
  • Ability to set priorities and expectations in a manner understandable to employees/colleagues.
  • Ability to make decisions under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to relate to customer needs and concerns.
  • Travel between 30 - 50%


  • Serves as primary thought leader for the Behavioral Health Division. Creates white papers, leads training sessions. Represents UHS at the national level-medical community, legislation, regulatory standards, etc.
  • Identifies opportunities to collaborate with payers on future business partnerships. Identifies and develops clinical integration opportunities with outside health systems.
  • Partners with key Division leaders to provide clinical and quality direction for the organization.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of effective clinical protocols and guidelines based on data and evidence throughout the Division at all levels of care.
  • Develops and oversees robust recruitment, mentoring, orientation and ongoing training program for facility based medical directors and medical staff.
  • Establishes psychiatry residency and other training programs to develop a bench for future leaders.
  • Provides an environment of quality and cost improvement that is data driven. Participates in Division-wide Patient Safety Council and Quality Committee.
  • Establishes peer review/critical case review processes
  • Provides consultation and guidance to organizational leaders on all matters related to Division medical practices and quality outcomes.
  • Provides direction and supervision to assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required.
