Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Cloud Applications Engineer.  This position will be located at our Global Operations & Innovation Center (GOIC) in Wheeling, WV and consideration given for 100% remote US locations

Responsibilities:  

The Cloud Applications Engineer is an exciting and impactful position, playing a leadership role in managing Microsoft 365 and other firm SaaS environments and establishing governance models for their use. This role will function as an evangelist for cloud and Microsoft 365 solutions within our IT organization and help to assess which solutions make the most sense to address specific business needs while balancing firm data privacy and residency requirements. The Cloud Applications Engineer will evaluate current business processes, identify opportunities for improvement using M365 or other viable cloud services, and assist with the implementation and change management associated with these projects. They will provide guidance, mentoring, and training to IT engineers to assist in the transition to SaaS applications from the traditional, on-premise model.  

  • Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, business process owners and third-party consultants to identify, configure and implement new workflows and capabilities within Microsoft 365 and other Cloud platforms. Lead or participate in Cloud specific projects as assigned. 
  • Establish appropriate governance and software configurations to ensure SaaS solutions meet the firm’s stringent security, records management, data privacy, and data residency requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice to process owners and business analysts to determine when Cloud solutions can/should be used to address business needs.  
  • Provide guidance to other engineers and the Service Desk team on Cloud applications and work closely with the Technology Training Team to develop user level training.  
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of platform integrations with other Cloud applications as well as on-prem systems via APIs and other techniques.
  • Stay abreast of the Cloud technologies and trends and bring forward relevant ideas and enhancements to improve the efficiency of Orrick processes and our use of the Microsoft 365 platform in particular.        
  • Participate in the on-call support rotation of the Applications Team. This will require learning Orrick’s core application suite.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as managing user accounts and licensing via interfaces such as the Office 365 Admin Center and Windows PowerShell.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related area from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. 
  • At least 5 years of experience implementing, leveraging and supporting Microsoft and other cloud-based applications with demonstrated subject matter expertise.
  • Solid database understanding and experience leveraging APIs.  
  • Technical & Administrative expertise in the Microsoft 365 platform including Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint Online, Teams, Planner, One Drive and Power BI.
  • Exposure and experience with many of the broader Microsoft 365 offerings, such as those found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/products-apps-services 
  • Compliance, risk and security experience including areas such as sensitivity labels, retention policies and DLP.
  • Experience with 3rd party tools to assist with the administration and management of Microsoft 365 offerings a plus.
  • Experience managing the enablement, including setting the proper guardrails, for power users to fully leverage Microsoft 365.
  • Experience with the Power Platform Center of Excellence is a plus.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting.
  • Expertise in Active Directory.
  • Experience with Exchange Online, particularly in the context of integration with other Microsoft 365 products.
  • Strong technical and administrative skills in Azure, AWS or other public cloud platforms a big plus.  
  • Experience leading or working on significant IT projects.
  • Experience in either the legal or professional services industries preferred.
  • Very strong customer service orientation required.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities required.
