What You’ll Do

You will play a key role in influencing a broad set of key audience attitudes and perceptions so our stakeholders recognise Cisco as an innovative technology leader and as the No. 1 IT Company. Cisco in Africa is known for its ambition, innovation and bolder approach inside and outside Cisco. The PR and Communications Manager is a critical part of this success story. 

You are responsible for creating and delivering an integrated communications plan and campaigns for key external and internal influencers. You work in partnership with all communications functions and diverse stakeholders across the business and other functions, including the country management team and marketing in Africa, with the main focus being on South Africa. Key influencers will primarily include the media, as well as social media and employees. 

  • You build one African narrative and adapt it to key markets by engaging with stakeholders from different business entities (including sales and development)
  • You drive regular planning and reporting meetings and provide communications counsel to relevant communications, marketing, and business colleagues
  • You track and report on communication success metrics and use the data to continually improve ongoing communications campaigns
  • You build and maintain strong working relationships with your colleagues in the EMEAR Comms Team, across the business and in HQ to develop insight into business goals and key activities in order to convert these into communications campaigns
  • You manage the PR agencies across the African Region and the associated budgets
  • You demonstrate high degree of patience, integrity and take the initiative

Who You Are

You are a seasoned communications professional with 8-10 years of direct PR and employee communications experience, having worked directly with journalists and on a pan-African level.

You have a track record of translating business goals into communications goals, understanding audience perceptions, and crafting integrated communications campaigns (internal and external) in support of the company and region business objectives.

  • You are a Communications professional in B2B sector with PR, internal/executive communication and/or pan Africa region experience
  • You have senior level experience in giving counsel and mentorship to executives; need to have credibility and presence with senior management
  • You have a deep understanding of how communications and marketing should work together
  • You are self-motivated with ability to handle areas of responsibility with minimum supervision and guidance
  • You are able to work as part of a regional and global team
  • You are able to exercise discretion when presented with sensitive information or confidential issues
  • You are able to prioritize high-impact communications as well as pinpoint and discontinue low impact communications
  • You have excellent written communication and storytelling skills to develop meaningful and engaging messaging documents, blogs, announcements, bylines, media pitches, briefing documents, Q&As, video scripts, presentations, and social media content etc.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills; intuitive ability to read people, influence where appropriate and execute when necessary
  • You have proven project management skills with the ability to meet milestones, tight deadlines, and balance concurrent projects
  • You are a flexible and resilient problem solver with the ability to gain consensus among others and handle sensitive situations
