What Youll Do

The Cisco Consulting Engineer is a critical customer-facing role that requires the instinctive ability to recognize gaps in customer capabilities and to translate those into business requirements and an execution strategy.

In this highly visible role you will be driving Service Delivery with a high focus on automation, NMS and OSS design, implementation and consulting services to our EMEAR based Service Provider and Enterprise customers.

The role includes consulting with key Service Provider and Enterprise customers across processes, tools and integration in the OSS area, as well as providing delivery services related to management and orchestration.

Job responsibilities include:

-             delivery of service program to major Service Provider accounts or large enterprise/public accounts.

-             analysis and diagnosis of complex NFV/SDN and orchestration OSS or integration problems

-             use of software development methodology and tools.

-             involvement in all of the following phases in a customer facing delivery project: solution design; deployment and migration; auditing/sizing; performance engineering and optimization; knowledge transfer and mentoring.

-             generation of reusable Intellectual Capital in the form of standard customer deliverables.

-             where appropriate, supervision and mentoring of partner delivery teams and less experienced engineers

 

Who Youll work with

You will be part of the Cisco Customer Experience (CX) Delivery Team for Africa, a team targeted to assist SP and Enterprise customers in achieving business outcomes through technology.

 

Who You are

We are looking for a candidate with several years experience in customer-facing roles within services delivery, IT or pre-sales. The candidate will be expected to work at customer premises and Cisco offices, mostly in Africa but occasionally throughout EMEAR. Willingness to travel required.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires BS, CS, University degree or equivalent industry experience and at least 8 years experience in network engineering or telecommunications support environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (English), possessing the ability to describe technical solution features and use to the target audience.
  • Strong experience with Service Provider network environments
  • Large-scale management and orchestration MANO design skills and Expert level troubleshooting in a large scale network & NMS/OSS environments
  • Knowledge of Cisco and industry-leading network management products (NMS) from a broad perspective with a deep understanding
  • Good Understanding of network operational models such as NGOSS (eTOM, TAM, SID, TNA), ITIL, and FCAPS
  • Deep TCP/IP networking skills, AAA and Radius
  • Skills in script development experience with one or more of Python, Perl, Tcl, JavaScript, PHP, and Unix Shell and CGI-Bin
  • Deep understanding of protocols employed in the management of IP networks such as SNMP, Syslog, Telnet/SSH, XML, HTTP and Application Programmatic Interfaces (API) such as REST, Java, JavaScript, and XML
  • SDN, NFV experience
  • Orchestration experience
  • Good Understanding of network application development environments such as Java, Python, C++, and particularly an understanding of object-oriented development

Desired Skills:

  • Tail-f/ NSO, Netconf, YANG
  • Ansible or similar open source tools
  • Strong understanding of virtualisation, hypervisors, Openstack, cloud automation
  • A good understanding of SDN controllers and VNFs
  • Experience with development tools like Rally, Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, Sonarcube, Jira, etc
  • DevOps delivery and Scrum principles
  • Relational databases experience
  • CCIE certification preferred
