General Summary:

The Controller is responsible for managing day-to-day activities for all accounting functions in compliance with GAAP requirements. Working with the guidance of the CFO, this role will ensure that financial information is complete and accurate for timely internal and external financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables. This position will be instrumental in developing and implementing accounting policies/procedures, monthly reporting and analysis, and streamlining processes.

Essential Duties

  • Oversight of, and responsibility for, the design and operating effectiveness of the internal controls and policy/procedure environments governing operational and transactional accounting
  • Manage the activities of the Corporate Accounting function for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits.
  • Maintains updated knowledge of GAAP and responds appropriately to current and prospective accounting standard requirements to ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Oversee the activities of the Accounts Receivable function to ensure the accurate and timely management of all Accounts Receivable components including billings, cash receipts application, quarter and/or year-end sales tax reporting.
  • Oversee the activities of the Disbursement function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, employee expense reports, cash controls and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
  • Oversee tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all required tax filings taking full advantage of favorable tax codes. Remain abreast of the IRS regulations and code changes and recommend operational adjustments as appropriate. Direct the preparation of the annual tax accrual, tax return work papers, and various sales, use and property tax returns.
  • Lead the department in meeting annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals and objectives and ensure that staff perform at an optimum level of performance by providing leadership in staff development.
  • Integration of acquisitions into Vetsources financial process and systems.
  • Supervise the preparation of consolidated financial statement in accordance with GAAP; supports accounting requirements for international operations and supervises consolidation of financial results
  • Help develop new processes, systems and/or policies as needed by the business to support growth, business change, and/or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Leads process changes to improve financial reporting, including interfaces with e-commerce systems.
  • Conducts audits to ensure compliance, controls, and accuracy of information.
  • Maintain positive relationships with bankers, auditors, insurance brokers, and attorneys. Providing financial information as needed.
  • Conducts ad hoc analyses of the organization's finances and presents findings to executive leadership for decision making and planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience with Oracle or other major enterprise accounting systems.
  • Strong experience in managing consolidated financial results of acquisitions and minority investments

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversight of all activities for the Accounting team

  • Direct management of staff including hiring and conducting coaching conversations, including review of performance and goal setting.
  • Proactively serve as an accounting resource for problem solving, mentoring, and development.
  • Meet regularly with staff, providing feedback, setting and evaluating metrics, and providing corrective action if necessary.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting with 10+ years of relevant work experience
  • CPA with 3-5 years of experience in a national or regional public accounting firm a plus.

Education/Experience:

  • Normal office environment with extensive phone and computer use.
  • Environment where dogs are present.
