Design/Implementation Engineering Manager

**Job Description:**

Directs, manages, plans and administers the operational and administrative activities of the Systems Engineering section. Supports multiple systems through maintenance, modification, problem resolution, etc. to support ongoing delivery of services and/or operations. Manages multiple applications/development projects, or single major complex initiatives if a small area of the development function. Coordinates resources across various applications, operations or projects. Responsible for staffing, performance management and compensation decision-making. Manages budget, monitors progress and adjusts resources and priorities accordingly. Provides input on policy issues. Typically 7-10 years of experience in managing and directing multi-project development teams

The role of the Design/Implementation Engineering Manager is to provide management, leadership, direction and logistical support to Network Service Towers and Service Delivery based teams. This leadership and direction comes in many forms, technical, decision making and strategic vision. The role is responsible for directing the physical and logical engineering deliverables, work flow and priorities for Global Networks. The IE Manager must display good judgment at all times and promotes this philosophy throughout the organization. The person in this role must understand the dynamics of risk vs. speed vs. quality. A forth element to consider is how those choices impacts costs/finances and commitments. This position is in direct line to the technical services delivery workflow. The position must drive adherence to and the use of standards, product sets, templates, systems and artifacts which are important elements to achieving successful outcomes. They must understand how to identify problems early enough in the process to preserve change windows and dates; how and when to stop Design/Implementations or fight through to a successful completion. The Network Manager is a point of escalation, solves problems and is a key decision maker. Areas of knowledge include but not limited to Voice (Enterprise, Trader and Contact Center), Unified/Real-Time Communications, Voice Messaging and Voice Recording (QA and Regulatory), Switched Voice and Transport Services, Cable and Building technologies, IP Network/Wide Area and Optical Technologies, Network Appliance/Firewalls, Extranet, Proxies, DNS/DHCP. The person in this role needs to know how to collaborate. This position will interface directly with internal and external customers, network architecture and engineering, deployment and product/service management, operations, vendors, consultants and contractors. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are a must. The Network Manager is a "thought-leader" and must be able to represent the strategic vision and goals of the organization to various stakeholders and shareholders.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate must understand the many attributes of how designs flow (based upon approved standards), participates in exceptions or new standard reviews and "commission and directs" the installation of all work.

The Network Manager works globally in a federated model with regional execution.

Regular meetings with key business partners, stakeholders and other groups. The Design/Implementation Engineering team's goals and objectives must be balanced between department goals and stakeholder goals. Participates in cross functional technical/SME groups to drive value in design and deployment initiatives.

Management of staff and Design/Implementation engineering service/suppliers. Plans multi-year goals to drive value and deliver cost saves through innovation, automation, flexible staffing, economies of scale, etc. (Deliver more with less cost year over year).

Must have strong CISCO NSO experience and general experience in Network Automation tools and processes.

Must have software development experience, should think like a software developer.

Participates in service reviews/planning and technology roadmap/strategy discussions to ensure the Design/Implementation team(s), its skills and processes evolve in line with the architecture and technology roadmaps.

Participates in RFI/RFP, contracts and vendor relationships as needed. Good financial management skills are a plus.

Manages and is responsible for a multi-discipline workforce (FTE, FTC and others). Ability to manage and influence 3rd parties and claim ownership of their work on behalf of the firm.

Ensures the team produces good and clear documentation. The IE Manager is accountable for the team's use and adherence of system updates (documentation, workflow, inventory systems and metrics).

Is responsible for the quality of the service outputs of his/her team's (FTE, FTC, Vendors and others). Work at all times. Develops metrics, reporting and KPIs to measure results and make directional and continuous improvements.

The candidate must have excellent client interfacing skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with all levels of management. Candidate should have experience operating with colleagues across different time zones with a flexible approach to working hours (ability to work varied hours and weekends a must) in order to successfully interact and communicate on a global level. Partners with external benchmarking activities and communicates with other stakeholder groups related to his/her product line to understand where their product/service is heading in the general technology environment.

Critical Experiences/Education Required:.

Must have strong analytical skills and have the ability to make real time decision.

Understands how to manage risk.

Minimum of 15+ years' experience required in Network and Network disciplines, project and Service Delivery, Design and Deployment services.

Strong understanding of ITIL; has participated in design and/or deployment of major IT projects.

Industry Certifications in Arista ACE, CCDP, CCNA, CCNP, and CCIE are strongly preferred.

o Associated certifications JUNOS/JNCP, Cisco CCVP, and CCIP-Voice are a plus.

Strong background in IT service delivery role (i.e. engineering support for projects).

Experience in various equipment manufacturers including but not limited to CISCO, Juniper, Arista, Brocade, EMC, HP/Aruba, etc.

Desired Skills

Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, MIS, related field and or technical training preferred. Advanced technical/business degree is a plus.
