Director Bioinformatics, Oncology Research and Development

We are looking for an exceptional creative scientist to lead and contribute to computational discovery and development of new therapies targeting tumor intrinsic mechanisms with a focus on Cell Cycle and Epigenetics. The scientist will lead a team of computational biologists embedded in the Tumor Cell Biology group. This team will be responsible for support of target discovery, early clinical development and generation of novel therapeutic hypotheses using data from late stage clinical trials patients' samples. The team will be expected to contribute to development of novel methods for integrative analysis and biological interpretation of large-scale molecular data.

The candidate should have broad expertise in large scale (OMICS) data analysis and application of computational biology tools to oncology target and biomarker discovery in close collaboration with experimental biologists. The candidate should have a proven record of analyzing and interpreting complex data to unravel drug mechanism of action (MoA) and resistance mechanism through generation and prioritization of experimentally testable hypotheses. The candidate should have experience translating observations from basic biology and preclinical research to clinical insights. The scientist will work closely with experimentalists to design and implement novel computational approaches to address most germane biological question. The candidate is expected to closely collaborate with other computational biology groups at Pfizer to identify, prioritize and adopt novel computational technologies for large-scale data analysis. The candidate should have experience working with data from diverse technological platforms including epigenetics, single cell sequencing, proteomics and interactomics. The successful candidate should have a track record of innovative and collaborative research.


+ Lead development and execution of strategies for integrative analysis and interpretation of large-scale data from clinical samples, preclinical models and functional genomics.

+ Effectively collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of molecular biologists, computational biologists to design and interpret new experiments to elucidate MoA, resistance and opportunities for drug combinations.

+ Align strategies and research priorities with Tumor Cell Biology leadership.

+ Closely collaborate with Tumor Cell Biology scientists to interpret large complex data sets for new target and biomarker discovery, MoA and efficacy studies.

+ Develop and execute strategies for mining of integrated data for novel targets and combinations and design strategies for follow-on experiments.

+ Work closely with early clinical development teams and translational oncology leads to identify patient populations and biomarkers for early clinical trials.

+ Present scientific and technical data to both internal and external colleagues in a clear and cohesive manner.

+ Contribute to external recognition of research at Pfizer through publications in top tier journals.


+ Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related fields with at least 10 years of post-doctoral experience.

+ Proven record of applying and developing computational biology approaches to generate new hypothesis for molecular mechanism driving cancer development, progression and resistance to therapies.

+ Proven record of conducting an independent and collaborative research.

+ Excellent record of leading and contributing to cross-disciplinary projects and working in large teams.

+ Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to lead in a matrix organization

+ Fluency in programming and scripting languages is required (R, Python, ...) in UNIX/LINUX environment.

+ In depth knowledge of integrative omics analysis, next generation sequencing, data mining, complex data analysis and statistics.

+ Experience in cancer research, including deep understanding of computation approaches for cancer genome analysis and single cell sequencing technologies.

+ Experience processing and interpreting large genomics data sets.

+ Experience in developing and applying computational systems biology approaches.

+ Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
