Director Compliance, AML Operations


Prudentials Corporate Anti-Money Laundering Unit (AMLU) is part of the Corporate Compliance Operations team and supports corporate level compliance monitoring of AML and sanction risks associated with Prudential US businesses. 


The Director Compliance, AML Operations leads and maintains oversight of the daily operations of the AMLU and is accountable for Corporate level AML and Sanctions compliance.  AMLU responsibilities include AML and sanctions screening, investigations, enhanced due diligence and suspicious activities monitoring, gathering and analyzing metrics, and collaboration with the Corporate AML Officer and business unit stakeholders to assure AMLU Operations activities are in alignment with overall AML program risk methodology.  The Director will manage a multi-location team to successfully discharge his or her duties.  

The Director Compliance, AML Operations will report to the Vice President of Corporate Compliance Operations.

Specifically, key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day activities of AMLU Operations team to ensure tasks are adequately planned, executed, measured and monitored.  Prioritization of time sensitive regulatory activities and case management to assure compliance with regulations (OFAC, SAR filings, wires and high-risk transactions review, FinCEN 314(a), etc.). 
  • Provide oversight and guidance on AML operational approach and workflows in a clear and concise manner to support optimization efforts.
  • Develop staff investigative skills and experience to enable effective handling and sound execution of activities and complex investigations. 
  • Decisions and research on handling high complex case reviews and investigations.
  • Conduct risk-based analysis to ensure that systems and processes are effective and appropriately optimized, including scenario-tuning and sampling (above/below the Line) methodologies.
  • Manage and coordinate response to regulatory or audit related requests.
  • Partner with business unit stakeholders to help assure AMLU awareness of business specific risks for effective corporate monitoring, collaborate on investigations, and guidance on 1st line controls as needed.
  • Responsible for providing draft suspicious activity reports (SARs) to AML Officer for completion and filing.
  • Provide AML and Sanction subject matter expertise. 
  • Management of AML/OFAC related projects (including system implementations).
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., BSA, AML & OFAC), industry developments and best practices, and new and amended laws and regulations relevant to AMLU Operations.
  • Maintain AMLU Operation policies, procedures, and systems.

Provide support to the Vice President, Compliance Operations on activities or projects as needed. 



  • Minimum 8-10 years operational anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions compliance experience, of which 3 years should be in AML team leadership role (including direct supervision) in wealth management, broker dealer, insurance, or mutual funds industry.
  • Experience in drafting/narrating/filing SARs, and conducting complex investigations and analysis. 
  • Excellent workflow and project management experience.  Results oriented, adaptable and comfortable with change based on business demands, and ability to manage complexity.
  • Analytical skills required, including excellent attention to detail, with ability to exercise prudent judgment to provide practical solutions and prioritize a diverse workload with time-sensitive regulatory deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Mutual fund, Life Insurance, Annuities, and/or retail Broker/Dealer products required.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with AML transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and case management systems (e.g., Actimize, Mantas, etc.).  Technology learning agility/tech savvy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrable strong knowledge of anti-money laundering and/or OFAC compliance principles.
  • Bachelor degree required.
