The Director Data Engineering is responsible for the entire life cycle of data management functions, including, but not limited to, data warehousing, data marts, integrations, and business intelligence platforms. A primary function of this role is the establishment and execution of Rotarys roadmap and vision for data management, governance, and security. You will work closely with technology, business intelligence and business leaders to deliver business value and strategic utilization of data by applying architectural and engineering concepts to develop solutions that meet operational requirements. This position reports to the CIO and oversees a team of Data Architects, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists.


You Will Have

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience in business, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or related technical/quantitative field

  • 7+ years of experience with data engineering and analysis

  • Familiarity with global data protection requirements and what is required to satisfy compliance regulations (such as GDPR) and certifications (such as SOC-2 and ISO 27001)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud data solutions, data modeling, database concepts, and data management

  • Experience implementing data quality, metadata management, lineage, and master data management solutions

  • Ability to serve as a design and technical subject matter expert on movement of data across transactional systems, extraction of same for use in data warehouse, and exposure in constructs with the purpose of enabling an enterprise self-service environment

  • Desire to maintain an awareness of technologies and new solutions as they come into the market and evaluate relevance for use to support Rotarys organizational strategy

You Are Good At

  • Managing, coordinating, and driving the data engineering services teams to achieve excellence in providing the organization with data-related solutions

  • Supporting and continually improving processes of managing data across the organization and making sure data is available for reporting

  • Driving the adoption of the initiative of building and maintaining a modern Cloud Enterprise Data Warehouse solution

  • Educating the organization on approaches to Data Management

  • Working with internal partners to ensure appropriate security controls are in place

  • Participating in strategic planning and governance from a data management perspective and produce supporting plans, metrics, and documentation

  • Participating in budget planning and budget management for the data management area

  • Hiring and growing a team that includes data engineers and data scientists

You Will Be Responsible For

Data Architects

  • Lead efforts that provide a shared perspective and vision for data governance and data management across the organization

  • Coordinate closely with business stakeholders and business intelligence and product management delivery teams to ensure consistency of data definitions and data use standards are followed

  • Partner with key business stakeholders to understand current and future business needs and how data is currently leveraged

Data Engineers

  • Serve as the subject matter expert to analyze and resolve data management and enterprise analytics technical issues

  • Create and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models

  • Maintain an infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of sources

Data Scientists

  • Identify actionable patterns in data, and research data trends that will positively influence organizational decisions regarding industry and market changes thereby informing future product planning strategies

  • Develop and implement strategies that ensures Rotary is harvesting and maximizing knowledge and insights gained from analysis of data
