About the position:

The Director, Inclusive Regional Economic Development is a new role focused on disrupting the traditional ways in which regions and states pursue economic development. This position will be part of JFFs Inclusive Regional Economic Development Team (IRED) and will report directly to the IRED Senior Director. This team designs place-based strategies to transform workforce, education, and employment systems and produce more equitable outcomes for Californians. We are focused on building cross-sector leadership that includes K-12 and community college systems, workforce, economic development, industry, and government, along with community-based organizations and actors that address the neighborhood-level conditions needed for learners and workers to thrive in a rapidly-changing economy. The IRED unit is developing a prototype for how JFF can work more deeply in states to integrate systems changes in education, workforce development, business attraction, land use development, impact investment, and other areas inextricably connected to creating equal opportunities for community members.

What you'll do:

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Team Management and Operations: Lead the development and implementation of JFFs IREDs strategy. Oversee early career staff and provide further development and coaching as needed to grow the team
  • Partnership Development: Build and maintain strong cross-sector relationships and partnerships with leaders in our field. Help to devise and support a partnership strategyand manage executive level funding relationships
  • Business Development: With support from the Senior Director, build and execute a business development strategy for our IRED unit. Oversee pipeline development, build compelling proposals, and close deals. Identify opportunities for new business within the market, including support for IREDs place-based prototypes and creating new investment vehicles for public and private investors interested in catalyzing or supporting inclusive economic growth
  • Content Development: Establish JFF as a platform for catalyzing inclusive economic development and social impact investments that produce inclusive economic growth across regions. Use your subject matter expertise to lead new approaches to economic development

Experienced Economic Development Practitioner

  • You have significant direct experience as a practitioner of economic development strategies. Examples include implementing place-based strategies, cluster promotion strategies, small business innovations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Mission-Driven Leader

  • You believe in JFF's core values and have the ability to apply those values to all areas of your work
  • You possess high energy and passion for JFFs mission
  • You have direct experience and nuanced knowledge of the issues of economic mobility and economic development
