The Director of Business Intelligence is responsible for facilitating, overseeing and supporting the Vetsource Business Intelligence Center of Excellence, the Analytics Team (VAT) and data consumption initiatives across the organization. They and their team will provide data analysis from which leaders of various departments can make data-based decisions ranging from financial to sales to operations and beyond. The Director of Business Intelligence drives access and understanding of data pulled from disparate locations into consumable, actionable deliverables through senior level analytical skills, deep engagement and partnerships with stakeholders and the mentoring of team members. This position provides recommendations and data-based guidance to senior management on a regular basis. This can be a remotely based position.

Essential Duties:

Include, but are not limited to the following. Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.

  • Partner with senior management to understand and deliver performance insights and key analytics solutions. Advocate for data-driven decisions, strong data governance, and other initiatives. Assist executives and/or senior leaders in defining organizational goals and strategic plans.
  • Drive proactive research, analysis and delivery of key information as well as the identification of key business trends, behaviors, insights and problems. Lead delivery of reporting and analytical solutions to stakeholders that provide data-driven insight into business performance, issues and initiatives. Communicate findings and conclusions, present results and advocate for proposed next steps to key decision makers, leadership and business partners.
  • Collaborate with other departments to assess and prioritize business intelligence and reporting needs. Understand how data can be used to improve job functions and provide greater value to both employees and customers.
  • Facilitate the governance of Vetsource's Business Intelligence Center of Excellence. Identify and partner with everyone in the organization who creates business intelligence, data, or analytical solutions of any type and align them with the centralized business intelligence Center of Excellence.
  • Act as point person for the coordination of requirements definition, development, and implementation of business intelligence solutions, strategy, and tools. Successful delivery of services and projects supporting the business both on time and within budget. Provides analytical, planning and administrative guidance to VAT team and organizational leaders to assist in the decision making process and implementation.
  • Partner on developing and building a sustainable, high performing data strategy and applicable solutions. Sit between the business sponsors, division heads and business analysts on one side and the IT department with its data architects, ETL developers, database administrators, systems analysts and product support personnel on the other. This includes, but is not limited to, consulting on master data management, governance, quality, integrity and warehousing as well as business intelligence and advanced analytics. Contribute to strategy and execution when architecting new data environments or onboarding new data sources supporting multiple teams.
  • Develop and implement business plans, policies, and procedures related to providing business intelligence solutions. Manage the specific relationships, implementation and administration of business intelligence and reporting tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct/manage/supervise business intelligence analysts focused on creating operational efficiency and driving business decisions by providing quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Define team goals, lead staff to achieving desired results, and be accountable for team performance.
  • Oversight of all day to day activities such as hiring, coaching, providing timely feedback, conducting quarterly coaching conversations and meeting regularly as both a team and with individuals
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring, developing, training, motivating and retaining staff.
  • Facilitate team meetings, energizing staff to work collaboratively, learn from each other and continuously seek new ways of looking at data.

Required Education/Experience:

  • 5+ years of deeply understanding data analysis approaches and tools including data modeling and analysis utilizing a wide range of approaches including statistical methods, implementing algorithms and programming languages, machine learning tools and other solutions to improve modeling
  • 3+ years guiding business intelligence strategy, functions and implementation including building and supporting self-serve models and experience with Centers of Excellence
  • 3+ years managing, mentoring and leading teams
  • 3+ years of experience with providing data as a service, data management processes and platforms, business intelligence software, and data warehouse
  • Experience in the E-commerce industry
  • BA in data analytics, economics, math, or similar field

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Master's Degree or higher
  • Exposure to Big Data stack environments (EMR, Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive)
  • Experience with Kafka, Flume and AWS/Google tool stacks.
  • Experience with building NLP and sentiment analysis
  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Oracle Fusion and Marketo
  • Knowledge of the veterinary industry
