Director of Production

The Director of Production is responsible for leading the production operations of the Instrument, SMRT Cell, and reagent manufacturing teams.  Directs the implementation of activities in the manufacturing groups to meet production goals, quality standards and cost objectives. Excellent coordination and communication skills are required in order to integrate the activities of the Planning and Supply Chain Teams, Manufacturing, Engineering Teams, Quality Teams, and new product introductions with the Development Team.  Self-Initiative, leadership, attention to details, and efficiency are critical.




This position reports to the Vice President of Manufacturing. 



Responsibilities



  • Lead diverse manufacturing areas in all functions of production, including reagent filling and plating, SMRT cell manufacturing, testing and packaging.

  • Supervise the execution of all aspects of test\QC for all 3 lines of products.

  • Implement and maintain key performance indicators (KPI) to drive manufacturing efficiencies and meet company objectives.

  • Maintain and implement best in class manufacturing systems and processes.

  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on production requirements including production build progress, cost, product yield, and other quality metrics.

  • Identify gaps in production and quality systems and drive improvements and consistency across the organization.

  • Work closely with New Product Introduction (NPI), Engineering, Chemistry, and Biology teams on product launch and manufacturing transfer.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering team to assist in equipment selection, qualification, and start up activities. Ensure robust procedures are utilized for operation of equipment and their maintenance.

  • Work with the materials management to ensure delivery of materials, equipment or services to meet production needs. 

  • Manage and develop a team of production managers / supervisors to constantly improve performance across the organization while maintaining quality and regulatory standards.

  • Operate within ISO9001, ISO13485 environment and maintain certifications.

  • Lean thinking is a plus.

Requirements



  • 10+ years of manufacturing/operations experience including 5+ years of experience managing manufacturing operations functions. 

  • Experience in all three areas: manufacturing capital equipment, assembly and testing, semiconductor testing and packaging, and reagent kit production is a plus.

  • Proven production management track record leading and managing manufacturing personnel.

  • Experience in implementing LEAN manufacturing processes / 6 sigma and Value Stream Mapping across production teams.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of data management tools, statistical process control performance/operation metrics.

  • Ability to work closely with the manufacturing and process engineers to implement robust and scalable test and QC solutions for Production.

  • Experience with Agile, SAP, and Camstar is a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience with multiple product launches, and fast pace product transitions in significant sized operation company or start-up environment.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Routinely engages in independent thought and judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria. 

  • Self-starting individual with a strong drive for continuous improvement and proven success in a faced paced work environment.

  • BS degree or higher in Life Sciences, Manufacturing Management, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field is a plus.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO9001, ISO13485, and cGMP requirements is a plus.
