Arbour Hospital, a 124 bed (112 Adult/12 Adolescent) private psychiatric facility located in Bostons Jamaica Plain neighborhood; the hospital also manages an 18 bed satellite adult psychiatric unit in Quincy. Arbour Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the MA Department of Mental Health.

Job Description:

  1. Leads in the continuity of care for patients on the unit in relation to the BSAS regulations and guidelines for treatment and also in compliance with the managed care based expectations of treatment. Drives a culture of sobriety and recovery for treatment team, staff and patients.

  2. Maintain the documentation necessary in the EMR per department and hospital requirements.

  3. Maintains current knowledge of patient's legal status and legal issues ensures appropriate documents are available in chart and filed in a timely manner.

  4. Coordinates discharge planning with patient, family and outside agencies as necessary through individual and family meetings, telephone contacts and providers meetings. Maintains effective and consistent communication with OP providers and agencies.

  5. Meets with patient regularly and involves patient in treatment and discharge planning.

  6. Attends and is active participant in weekly scheduled multidisciplinary team meetings. Provides input to team members regarding psychosocial problems, plan and goals, and discharge planning needs. Maintains effective communication with psychiatrist other team members.

  7. Is visible on unit, available and accessible to staff/patients. Responds to pages promptly. Maintains effective communication through verbal contact with psychiatrist and unit staff.

  8. Handles conflicts or problems in the team effectively and independently, or reports unresolved problems to the Director in a timely manner. Continues to work to provide constructive solutions to problems or conflicts even after involving the Director

  9. Makes early identification of families in need of intervention, support or education. Convenes family meetings as indicated, within time frame.

  10. Attends regular supervision meetings with supervisor, takes initiative to reschedule meetings if necessary. Takes initiative in individual supervision to identify and study problem cases, review the delivery of casework services, and discuss inter-disciplinary team work.

  11. Attends and participates actively in in-service training opportunities.

  12. Attends continuing education programs in the community to enhance clinical skills

  13. Obtains and/or maintains license.

  14. Notifies supervisor of potential problem cases. Keeps supervisor informed of treatment and discharge plans

  15. Completes paperwork within time frame and in a thorough fashion. Adapt and implement a substance-abuse/dual diagnosis counseling program for the inpatient program.

  16. Participates in the hiring and training BSAS unit staff.

  17. Developing or assembling treatment curriculum.

  18. Ensuring consistent record-keeping: assessments, treatment plans and utilization reviewable progress notes

  19. Developing relationships with external continuum of care, e.g. TSS, CSS, shelters, halfway houses

    developing and maintaining systems for quality control in relation to delivery of treatment services

  20. Monitor, maintain and administer BSAS regulations, compliance, audits and updates.

  21. Assist in the development and implementation of the groups therapy programming on the unit.22. Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

LADC 1 preferred or Masters Degree in Social Work/Counseling with appropriate licensure or license eligible.

Experience preferred working in an inpatient hospital or residential setting.
