Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center is a Joint Commission approved and state licensed facility for 88 beds, which includes pediatric units, adolescent girls, adolescent boys, and MISA (Mental Illness Substance Abuse) unit. We are committed to providing youth with compassionate treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. Lincoln Prairie provides treatment to children and adolescents (ages 3-17) that present with a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Lincoln Prairie offers an array of outpatient programs. We provide educational programs, enhanced Occupational Therapy services, Recreational Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, while utilizing a holistic treatment approach.

We are seeking an Group Therapist to support Lincoln Prairie's mission. The Group Therapist executes the inpatient treatment program and completes the assigned client care responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, goals and standards of the facility and level of care requirements. This position is paid per group completed. 

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Identify treatment plan impairments based on assessment findings.
  • Provide age appropriate (child/adolescent) clinical interventions (individual, family, group therapy) to patients as determined by assessment.
  • Attend patient staffing for patients in their caseload.
  • Document in client medical record following each treatment intervention.
  • Assist in the discharge planning process for each assigned patient.
  • Case management of caseload and communication with all sources to ensure quality of care.
  • Coordinate client staffing and communicates with team on treatment issues.
  • Initiate milieu structure within program.
  • Develop age appropriate interventions and special programs for specialized patient populations.
Job Requirements
  • Education: Master’s Degree in a mental health/human services field from an accredited college (counseling, social work, psychology) required.
  • Experience:  Two (2) years’ experience desired, preferably in a behavioral health care facility, with direct experience in individual, family and group therapies, crisis intervention and treatment.
  • Licensure/Certification: LCSW/LCPC preferred.  Certification as alcohol or other drug abuse counselor preferred. Successful completion of CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledge/Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, with majority of experience focused on the child/adolescent population. Knowledge of information referral. Knowledge of the federal, state and local laws that pertain to enquires right to privacy and confidentiality. Knowledge utilization review. Knowledge of legal obligations for reporting abuse and/or neglect. Knowledge of community resources relating to patient care. Knowledge of individual, family and group therapy techniques. Knowledge of therapeutic planning and techniques. Understand the importance of adapting to the various client age groups (adolescent/child). Knowledge of the treatment of chemical dependency.  DHS/DCFS background/ knowledge. Must possess physical and emotional health to meet the demands of the position. Effective oral and written communication skills.  Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. Must be a self-starter and goal/results-oriented. Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information. Microsoft Office and computer skills. Strong customer service skills to external and internal customers. Ability to adhere to safety policies and code procedures react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Strong problem solving skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Physical agility to manage patients with crisis prevention interventions.  Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.  Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment  urine drug screen.   • Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
