Hardware Engineer Technical Leader (San Jose, CA)

Location This position is based in our San Jose, CA offices. The position requires on-site lab work. There may be flexibility in days per week required on-site. Relocation may be considered. 

This is a senior level, individual contributor role. In this role you will be involved in both hands-on technical work and in providing mentoring and leadership across the team, and within the organization.    

Who You'll Work With 
 
We are a creative and multi-skilled team designing a new class of Cisco Nexus 9000 Data Center products for the Internet and Data Centers of the future. These are cloud-enhanced systems powered by specialized Data Center ASICs. These systems deliver the switching performance and functionality that scale to meet the needs of future internet traffic and Hyper Scale Data Centers.

What You'll Do 

You will be designing the hardware for the Nexus 9000 series Data Center Products to deliver the best quality, best power efficiency, for innovative network technology at the highest bit rates possible. Your responsibilities will cover from hardware definition to design, from qualification to product release. You will be collaborating with a team of experts on hardware design and will work closely with other cross-functional teams and vendors during the development of the product and solving challenging problems along the way.

Who You Are 

Minimum Requirements for this role: 
  • Bachelor of Science in EE or CE or equivalent
  • 10+ years overall hardware design experience, preferably in networking
  • Knowledge of fundamental hardware blocks & subsystems - CPU/microcontrollers, High-speed signaling like (LVDS, LVPECL, HSCL etc.), M.2 SATA, USB, DDR4, clocking, basic signal integrity & power integrity
  • Direct experience with electrical design and measurement equipment - oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, TDR, traffic generators (Ixia, Spirent), etc.
  • Experience with networking protocols like 802.3 speeds (400G/100G/40G/25G/10G), 56G-PAM4, 10G-BaseT, 802.3ae, 802.3af, 802.3ba etc.
  • Outstanding debug/troubleshoot skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to interface with other cross-functional teams, including CAD, FPGA, Software, Mechanical, Signal integrity, Marketing, Operations, & Manufacturing teams
  • Ability to learn things quickly & adapt to a dynamic, fast paced work environment
  • A "can do" attitude, independent thinking, & ability to articulate complex technical issues in an effective manner

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
