Job Summary
The City of Salem Human Resource Department has a new and exciting career opportunity! We are recruiting a Human Resources Specialist to join the team!

We are looking for an individual who is detail orientated, performs effectively, and great at communicating with others. This position will work as part of a three-person team maintaining the employee records and databases. As an HR Specialist, you will work in an environment involving high volume of work and interruptions. The successful candidate must be comfortable and experienced with prioritizing and managing multiple work tasks to meet deadlines.

This position provides a variety of paraprofessional, technical, and administrative support to maintaining the human resources information system (HRIS) data. Along with data entry, you will be responsible for reviewing and processing paperwork prior to entering data into our HRIS computer system. In addition, this position is responsible for managing the E-Verify system and I-9 documentation, as well as being the departments electronic records manager.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • Must have an Oregon Driver's license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and four (4) years of experience in technical personnel work or related field, with at least 2-3 years experienced in payroll or human resources processing, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
