Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Calgary based Natural Resources Solution Centre (NRSC) is looking for an Industry Solutions Consultant - Mining, in Calgary. The primary objective of this group is to provide industry technical expertise consulting and solution development and drive/support business development for the Petroleum, Chemicals and Mining consulting engagements and associated solutions in markets throughout Canada and the world.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Working with a project team to help provide solutions for industry clients, IBM is looking for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide insight into specific verticals. The Industry Solutions Consultant Mining will interface and engage with CXO level and other industry leaders to connect NRSC solutions to prospective clients. The strategic initiatives of this role include:

Identifying opportunities and collecting client critical information that best position IBM for business growth opportunities with new, developing and existing clients

Assisting to lead and manage internal processes related to this mandate
Help to lead and drive business development and procurements from early positioning through sales
Helping project team to develop a market-specific strategic plan to promote IBM within the Mining industry. These plans will build on existing plans, strategies and actions targeted at key clients and geographies
Engaging with teams to develop technical proposal strategies for work in the
Mining industry
Attending relevant conferences, association meetings, etc. that align with efforts to build relationships with clients and raise the NRSC profile in the natural resources market
Providing senior technical review of Mining deliverables (or ensuring that another technical reviewer has been engaged)
Identifying resource gaps in delivery team and supporting the business group.
Strong executive presence. Experience selling consulting engagements to CXO level clients, would be considered an asset
Superior leadership skills; proven background creating and selling solutions
Addressing the pain points of the oil and gas and chemicals industries and have achieved significant quantitative and qualitative results
Excellent organizational skills and strong global management / awareness; able to articulate a vision and communicate it throughout the organization assuring buy- ins from all appropriate groups; proven change agent
Familiarity with the entire major project lifecycle in large (>$1B) capital projects for upstream, mid-stream, downstream and/or mining operations. Understand the major systems and processes in each portion of the project lifecycle and the systems that support those processes
Well organized planner and doer; results oriented; able to achieve maximum results by being appropriately opportunistic
Strong analytical skills and business judgment; excellent negotiating skills and innate desire to win in the marketplace
Have experience in delivering complex strategic and technology implementation projects that address multi-faceted issues, working across organizational boundaries, interfacing with senior executives, client SMEs and working effectively in teams
Demonstrate a strong track record of solving complex business issues and delivering (internal or external) client satisfaction


Required Professional and Technical Expertise
Bachelors Degree
At least 10-15 years experience in Mining operations in the Energy/Petroleum/Mining industries.
At least 5 years experience in consulting for sales / solutions to Energy/Petroleum/Mining companies, or a significant background with a major mining or oil sands company
Basic knowledge in with prevalent software and technologies and their use in the Petroleum, Chemical and Mining industries
Basic knowledge in relevant Industry Standards prevalent in the Chemical and Petroleum and Mining industries will be considered when reviewing candidates. These include, but are not limited to: ISA-88, ISA-95, ISO-15926
Basic knowledge in Document / Knowledge Management: Documentum, Enterprise Asset Management or Business Analytics Optimization
Basic knowledge in with Environmental Health and Safety Solutions: such as IHS / ESS - Essential Suite and Compliance Suite or SAP EHS


Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise
15+ years experience in Mining operations in the Energy/Petroleum/Mining industries.
