As a Sr. IO Engineer you will work primarily Postgres but also exposed to other database platforms, including Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL. You will align database management practices with business-driven IT, DevOps, and Agile such as automated continuous database software and schema change integration, deployment, and security. You will be adopting a full and authentic attitude towards transparency and collaboration with technical and business stakeholders via Agile processes such as continuous process improvement, knowledge sharing, change & problem management, and post-mortems with other architects and engineers. Over time, you'll find ways to automate mundane tasks and focus on building the future. You will help define and document best practice processes and standards for configuring, supporting, optimizing, and backup as well as mentoring other Engineers, staying current with the latest advances, and evaluate the benefits of applying them in our environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement build process for database which may include access methods, device allocation, validation checks, monitoring, backup, protection and security, documentation
  • Experience with DevOps toolset for pipeline automation, enterprise monitoring, and infrastructure analytics.
  • Ability to learn and transform knowledge into working architectures and operational standards for future solutions based on what is best for the job.
  • Automate every aspect of build, maintain and schema change management that can be automated.
  • Meet service level objectives (RPO, RTO, Performance) for services in your care.
  • Automate system upgrades with little to no downtime.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of talented engineers to help them build reliable and scalable services.
  • Create physical database design and implement required database technologies and functions following database standards and best practices.
  • Create, support, and maintain business continuity and disaster recoveries practices such as backup and recovery processes and implementation of high availability features.
  • Troubleshoot a wide range of database problems with complex interdependencies and provide corrective action within an appropriate period.
  • Plan the database upgrade process.
  • Monitor capacity, performance and resolve problems.
  • Mentor other Engineers and help to identify opportunities for training.
