About Us

Zoic Labs is an advanced visualization company focused on the intersection of big data, narrative, design, and emerging technologies.

Since 2002, we have developed software and virtual production tools for Zoic Studios, a multi-platform storytelling company with emphasis on high-end computer graphics for film, television, and gaming.

As the Project Manager at Zoic Labs you are the glue that keeps the show running. You are the eyes and ears to ensure that all hands are moving in sync, towards building software, designing great user experience, and occasionally really cool VR/AR/MR tools.

If you crave action, you'll like it here! This is a great position for someone interested in working on a variety of exciting and diverse software projects!

It is fast-paced role that requires you to be self-directed, while collaborating with a team of very smart, diverse personalities.

  • Manage several concurrent software projects involving diverse technical issues, customer needs, and development methodologies (Kanban, Scrum, SAFe, Waterfall, etc).
  • Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering to deliver valuable, working software on-time to customers, while ensuring productivity of our developers and designers, across numerous efforts.
  • Communicate progress on projects and related tasks regularly, to ensure stakeholder awareness, both internally and externally. Includes assisting in developing and orchestrating demonstrations.
  • Ensure conformance with customer program requirements, including technical tasks, schedules, costs, reporting, and facility/infrastructure compliance.
  • Perform the Scrum Master role (when applicable) to ensure effective use of daily standups and sprint events, provide resolution towards blockers, and foster the spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to control costs through planning budgets, managing spending,  generating invoices, and anticipating issues.
  • Perform timely resource management across multiple projects, by anticipating availability of team members vs. emerging needs, and identify gaps, to drive the recruitment of suitable candidates.
  • Ensure good communication across the organization, and with remote customers, around emerging risks, dependencies, or unresolved blockers.
  • Plan and orchestrate meetings: booking conference rooms, teleconferencing arrangements, travel details, catering, meeting notices, attendee confirmations, materials and presentations.

Key Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering multiple projects end-to-end with small to medium sized cross functional teams.
  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent experience), with 3-5 years of managing software feature development, from concept to executable set of designs, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experienced with measuring and improving dev team performance, through a collaborative approach.
  • Understands that one size does not fit all:  Shows flexibility and discernment towards when/how to apply various project management practices, according to the needs of the project, the customer, or team capability.
  • Sound understanding of various agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc), the effective application for each, the team roles, and how to use the events.
  • Can adapt (and scale appropriately) to different customer communities or project types such as: government (aerospace, DoD, Intelligence), commercial releases, internal R&D.
  • Communicates up and across, by delineating between the needs of dev teams, external customers, and senior Zoic stakeholders. Also, applies the appropriate breadth and depth for each.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of cost control, including planning, tracking, and adjusting to re-forecast.
  • Ability to learn new technical subjects quickly, communicates them effectively, and appreciates technical subtleties.

Desirable Qualifications (not required):

  • Knowledgeable of the Federal Acquisitions Regulations (FAR), North American Classification System (NAICS), and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Security clearance
  • Experience managing projects that involve: JavaScript, React-Redux, Elasticsearch, WebGL, C++, C#, SQL/NoSQL, Docker, Unity, HTC Vive, Magic Leap, Cesium, Python
  • Experienced with wearing more than one hat (or demonstrates good understanding of the core skills) found in various agile and traditional software development roles. Project Manager, Scrum Master, Product Manager/Owner, QA, Business Analyst, etc.
  • Experienced with different business environments and customer types: large enterprises (defined processes, competing groups), as well as startups (dynamic/undefined markets and rapid feature changes).
