Texoma Medical Center, a 378-bed facility (297 acute, 60 behavioral, 21 rehabilitation) with a 12-room operating suite and eight floors, has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. Our main campus is located in Denison, Texas, approximately one hour north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and just south of the Texas/Oklahoma border. In addition, we have numerous facilities in locations throughout the Texoma region.

Position Summary: Perform routine phlebotomy procedures. Assist in clerical duties, processing of outpatient specimens, restocking, cleaning work areas, inventory assessment and performing testing procedures described as "waived" testing and moderately complex testing.

Job Requirements

High School Diploma/GED, or highest level of education. Preferred Bachelors or Associates of Science. Reading and numerical competency. Training and certification from accredited phlebotomy program preferred.

One year of recent phlebotomy experience or completion of MLT/Phlebotomy program.

ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologist) certified as Phlebotomist desired, but not required.

Collects and prepares blood specimens and other samples for laboratory testing. Maintains collection areas, pending worklists, has knowledge of Laboratory information systems,testing equipment, and performs record keeping duties.
The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a Technologist or MLT school and have working knowledge of Hematology and Chemistry. The hours for this role are variable and it will not be a set work schedule. Most shifts that we are looking to cover will be 4am to 8am in the Central processing department. Specific tasks will be receipt of blood from the pneumatic tube system, logging blood using Cerner Millenium, and distribution to the required work area. As time allows we will check off a lab assistant for further tasks such as urinalysis, loading chemistry and hematology instruments, and evaluating quality control materials.
Ability to learn computer system and computerized lab equipment. Demonstrates knowledge and exhibits skills in obtaining laboratory specimens from all age groups. Must have moderate complex testing after initial training and assessment at six-months. Expectation that you can perform both waived and moderate complexity testing using Point of Care devices during code blue/trauma, or as needed in other areas. Must work well with people and maintain confidentiality.
Specific shifts - Saturday and Sunday or anytime during the week as needed
Hours of work - 4 hour shifts and scheduled two-three days a week
