Lead Software Engineer (C/C++), Routing & SD-WAN (MX)

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will initially focus on delivering high-quality fixes for regressions and customer issues with our Security and SD-WAN MX device firmware. You identify and eliminate technical debt and code smells, accelerating release of our latest features to customers. As you mature in your knowledge of our codebase, you will lead the Routing & SD-WAN features in MX by improving and re-architecting existing components and subsystems, as well as developing new features to support the future growth of the product, both in terms of functionality, simplicity, scalability, and availability. Our projects are driven by technological innovation and developer creativity in addition to market demands, giving you the structure and freedom to pursue projects you are most passionate about. Youll have the opportunity to work across teams to craft features and systems to solve sophisticated problems for our customers. You are an ideal candidate if you have:
- Fluency in C or C++
- 10+ years experience in a production software engineering environment
- Networking foundational knowledge (LANs, routing, switching, wireless)
- Experience developing in SD-WAN environment (WAN analytics, multi-uplink, global route policy, quality-based routing)
- Experience developing and troubleshooting in a Linux environment
- Experience working with and writing concurrent programs
- Understanding of OS fundamentals and experience working in both kernel and user space
- A focused, organized approach to development, testing, and quality
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
Bonus points for:
- Developing and implementing core network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP) and routing protocols (BGP/OSPF, VPN, IPv4/IPv6)
- Good understanding of VPN, NAT development
- Experience building cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g. web applications)
- Scripting skills in Ruby or Python
- Understanding of network security fundamentals
- Experience working with version control, specifically Git
- Experience with Yocto

For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
