Position Summary

The Online Learning and Instructional Design Department at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a full-time Learning Experience Designer. The University encourages applications from individuals belonging to groups underrepresented in their field and those that can add new and valuable perspectives to the academic environment.

The Learning Experience Designer engages in the development of instructional experiences that meet current educational standards and best practices for adult learning. Their skills are applied in the design of materials for online, blended, and face-to- face programs, as well as, professional development events and courses.

This position works closely with faculty in the creation and evaluation of instructional objectives, learning outcomes, development of course materials, and assessment of materials to ensure quality and effectiveness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design materials, through collaboration with faculty, to meet objectives of online or blended courses to be delivered using the learning management system, as well as, other systems used for content delivery, assessment, and research.
  • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts on assessment strategies to insure that delivered materials achieve defined objectives.
  • Provide instructional design support for faculty and staff development activities and initiatives including, but not limited to, production of course content and event materials.
  • Consult with faculty on the appropriate application of technology solutions for teaching and learning.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff via seminars, workshops, and training sessions to educate the community on educational technology products, concepts, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Serve on teams, committees and task forces as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field.
  • Two years of experience providing instructional design in an educational or training setting using a learning management system.
  • Experience providing direct customer assistance in the utilization of educational technology.
  • Knowledge of Quality Matters standards and demonstrated competencies in the area of instructional design.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the utilization and course design in at least one Learning Management System (Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Moodle, Sakai).
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies in the areas of lecture capture, video conferencing, audience response, and assessment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and customers to develop high quality products.
  • Superior communication skills with the ability to deliver technical presentations and written documentation to a non-technical audience.
  • Organizational and project management skills to effectively manage time, set priorities, and handle multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices related to higher education and online learning.
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly and apply appropriately.
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a related field
  • Four (4) years of experience in a higher education environment assessing, designing, developing, implementing and evaluating instructional technology solutions
  • Experience providing instructional technology training and development sessions to faculty
  • Experience as a project leader/manager for a technology project implementation
  • Teaching experience using educational technology in the classroom and an online learning environment
  • Hold credentials and experience which may support a faculty appointment for teaching at RFUMS.
