Today's USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The TV, Sports & Variety Manager for USO Global Entertainment is responsible for the Talent acquisition and implementation of entertainment activities across the Television, Sports & Variety pillars and is the key relationship holder across Talent, Networks, Production Companies & TV/Sports representatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Implement and manage events/engagements, including traveling on USO tours, virtual engagements or other activities that engage & secure high-profile celebrity talent &/or media brands/content across the TV/Sports/Variety genres presented to diverse USO service and Military communities worldwide.*
  • Lead celebrity & brand stewardship strategy across assigned genres, including but not limited to the planning and implementation of pitching, creating and managing customized celebrity & media brand profiles, cultivating strong relationships & brand affinity for the USO across key external stakeholders, securing Celebrity & Media partners that provide diverse Entertainment offerings for active duty Military on a regular basis.
  • As required, coordinate, source and fulfill talent requests from within the USO and from key external parties, including but not limited to, preparing and providing follow-up on required talent recruitment documentation. *
  • Interface with key internal stakeholders, external partners, and the Military community and leadership about Entertainment engagement related issues and events, including project management, handling logistics, tour preparation & travel on USO Entertainment enagements.*
  • Assist the Director, Global Entertainment Partnerships & Strategy, in the preparing program related briefings and electronic presentations related to strategic and/or work plans, meeting summaries, recruitment inquiries, internal offer letters, talent confirmations, and other communications.*
  • Organize and maintain electronic documentation. Produce and prepare reports, updates and event metrics. Assist with preparing expense reports. *
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field.
  • 5+ years' work experience, preferably in a lead program/project role in the entertainment industry with a TV or sports concentration. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, multicultural, Sports, corporate and/or global organization preferred. Events management experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Sports & TV genres & pop culture including strong awareness of the media industry - including corporate business structures, key players & best practices & communications.
  • Established rolodex of contacts across celebrities, networks & agencies located in the NY area preferred.
  • Awareness of the TV/Sports/Variety production process preferred. General awareness of complex cultural sensitivities of a variety of domestic and international locations.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism. Ability to manage and influence external vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications. Ability to communicate to a diverse audience at a variety of levels using multiple channels with diplomacy, tact and poise. Ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects.
  • Knowledge of various software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience using social media and online communication tools in a business environment preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours and/or overtime as needed.
  • Must show initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. Ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver's license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USO's mission.
