Note: Mechanical experience required, but bus or transit experience not required.
SUMMARY: This is a skilled Bus Mechanic's position. Work includes basic to moderate levels of bus expertise and is done with general supervision. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with accepted trade standards and regulations. Employees in this class perform complex bus equipment repairs on diesel and gas transit vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to the following:
Proficient in Brakesadjusting, repair and replacement
Must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical problems
Must have or obtain within 90 days, a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Required to input Data efficiently using THE FASTER SYSTEM
Essential to complete all bus repairs in a safe and timely manner
Required to perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) Inspections
Road Call Change Outs
Other duties may be assigned
Ability to comprehend technical manuals
Due to the nature and needs of the business, ALL Mechanics may be required to perform tasks outside of their particular classification.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or six (6) months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety Rules, Operating and Maintenance Instructions and Procedure Manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
Class B CDL License
May be required to obtain ASE Certifications in various categories of maintenance
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to sit or climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and, in some instances, may lift more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, cleaning supplies, brake cleaner, parts washer and related chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will wear appropriate safety equipment and follow Safety Practices and Procedures
SPECIFICS OF THE JOB:
Employee is required to provide his/her own tools in the performance of this job.
Due to the Safety Sensitive classification of this job, prospective employees must meet satisfactory initial drug screening. All employees, in this job title will participate in random drug testing.
Must be able to work any and all hours associated with the position to include weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays.
This is a unionized position, employees in this title are covered by the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1493.
