Position Summary

Guggenheim Partners is seeking a Municipal Bonds Trader to join its Municipal Bond Team. The Municipal Bonds Trader will be responsible for liaising with counterparties to trade securities in both the primary and secondary markets, providing best execution for different client groups at Guggenheim. The Municipal Bonds Trader will also be tasked to create/improve team processes, including automation, relative value assessment vis--vis credit, etc. and contribute to the overall performance and efficiency of the Municipal Bond Team. The position is located in Santa Monica, CA.

Essential Job Functions

  • Trade and book municipal securities across all sectors and rating categories, including both taxable and tax exempts
  • Liaise with broker dealer counterparties
  • Track and update the primary calendar of upcoming new issuances
  • Source securities available for purchase subject to internal parameters
  • Price securities for sale by different client groups
  • Track market/credit developments and update the team and client groups as needed
  • Provide assessments of municipal market relative value on a regular and ad hoc basis upon request
  • Create counterparty trading reports
  • Provide confirmations for pricing, liquidity, and other risk assessment processes
  • Create templates/processes to improve overall team efficiency
  • Create presentations on market technical for client meetings/marketing reports


Preferred Qualifications

  • Critical thinking ability
  • Proactive and strong work ethic
  • Daily experience with Bloomberg, MarketAxess, Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with Blackrock Aladdin and ATX a plus
  • VBA/Python knowledge a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to collaborate in team setting and work independently
  • Ability to multi-task across analytical, administrative, and research activities in a detail oriented and timely manner
  • Strong commitment to performance and accuracy of work product


Basic Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of trading experience in any fixed-income credit sector, including municipals, corporates, and asset-backed securities
  • Possession of/progress towards the CFA designation
