**ROLE SUMMARY**

Emerging Science & Innovation (ES&I) is a division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development (WRD) that provides opportunities to unite leading external scientists and the biomedical community with Pfizer's R&D efforts and experts. In partnership with Pfizer Business Development, ES&I colleagues form productive collaborations and flexible partnerships with the goal of advancing breakthrough sciences, technologies and products to strengthen Pfizer's R&D pipeline. The Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI), an entrepreneurial group within ES&I, is a proven and productive example of how Pfizer collaborate with leading academic medical centers and disease foundations with the aim of translating promising science into clinical candidates. We are proud to expand the CTI model to the Asia Pacific regions by establishing Shanghai based CTI-Asia Discovery Labs (CTI-ADL) supported by senior R&D representatives in key academic hubs to promote and advance R&D innovations and investments in the regions leveraging Pfizer global R&D capabilities and network of partners.

The CTI-ADL is looking for a dynamic leader to manage our business, laboratory and partnering operations. S/he is a self-starter who thrives on delivering efficient and effective operational and project support, often working with diverse internal and external stakeholders across the globe to help achieve team goals. The successful candidate will work in close partnership with CTI Strategy/Operation Team to plan, align and coordinate critical activities and to ensure delivery of ES&I goals. As a member of the site leadership team, the successful candidate will contribute to operation, strategy, prioritization and growth direction of CTI-ADL.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Responsible for CTI-ADL business operations by providing efficient, effective and congenial business process support, through a range of activities including:

+ Working with the External Science & Innovation (ES&I) Leadership Team to provide thought leadership and support for CTI-ADL growth and partnering strategy

+ Dotted line reporting to the Head of CTI Strategy & Operation to ensure alignment and consistence in business operations across CTI/ES&I/WRD

+ In partnership with ES&I Financial Lead, managing CTI-ADL financial processes e.g. meeting OPEX budget, tracking POs and invoice payments

+ Point of contact with lab site host facility management, Pfizer Procurement & Global Operation, streamlining lab and office operations

+ Compliance Point of Contact, expert in and overseeing all CTI-ADL's compliance-related activities and ensuring both internal operations and external transactions adhere to current Pfizer corporate expectations

+ Accountable for operational excellence, including consistency and transparency of all processes among partner lines with the goal to build consensus support for opportunities and ensure high and consistent quality of documentation and presentation to internal stake holders and senior management for decision making.

+ Take primary responsibility for alliance management by:

+ As primary point contact for Pfizer's Business Technology team, managing CTI-ADL's external-facing website and web-based applications, ensuring effective proposal submission and review and designing and enabling metrics reporting to inform process improvements

+ Tracking CTI-ADL's partnering activities, including proposal submissions and reviews, contract filing and management

+ Supporting new project starts by providing welcome packs to, and facilitating timely training of external partners

+ Ensuring CTI-ADL's external partners have appropriate access to Pfizer information systems, tools, reagents and other supplies

+ Coordinating with BT to ensure timely onboarding and off-boarding of external scientific collaborators, maintain updated partnering contact lists, and plan for and support Leadership meetings, Joint Steering Committee meetings, proposal review meetings etc

+ Working with ES&I stakeholders as well as BD and Legal colleagues to support the establishment of new partnerships beyond the traditional CTI model and ensure optimal management of both existing and new partnerships across a range of organizational types, geographies and business models

+ Maintaining up-to-date records of partnering data and leading associated analytics

+ Planning for and executing CTI-ADL's outreach events including its Calls for Proposals aligned with WRD strategic focus areas, working with others across CTI/ES&I to set Call topics and manage the review processes and arising communications

+ Managing scientific proposal review processes between senior/executive level internal and external stakeholders, ensuring arising outcomes are documented, communicated and actioned in a timely manner

+ Serving as a primary point of contact for CTI-ADL partners to ensure pipeline continuity, by effective management of transactional activities associated with bringing projects into and through the CTI pipeline, including coordinating contract submission and negotiation and managing publication and IP review processes

+ Serving as a primary point of contact for issue resolution for business, legal, patents and contractual queries for all past, ongoing and incoming projects

+ Adopting a 'partner of choice' mentality whilst using a deep knowledge of Pfizer's business and legal agreements to develop solutions to highly complex problems and thus ensure effective management of arising issues

+ Responsible for portfolio and project management activities for CTI-ADL internal programs and external partnerships, activities including:

+ In collaboration with Pfizer internal research project leaders, research units and partner lines, planning and coordinating execution of critical-path project activities for multiple biologics and small molecule projects, spanning all stages

+ Working with project teams to drive clear action items, facilitate decision making and navigate governance processes

+ In collaboration with project teams, evaluating strategies, analyzing and identifying project risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies

+ Coordinating planned activities with Pfizer Partner Lines to ensure projects are executed in a timely manner and within the allocated budget

+ Managing project costs and working with the Finance group to track payments, including those associated with activities that are conducted by CTI academic partners



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ MSc or equivalent in Life or Medical Sciences, with a sound understanding of pharmaceutical discovery and development

+ 8+ years' experience in the 'business of science', of which at least 4 years has been spent developing and managing value-creating partnerships in the life sciences, specifically the management of industry-academic alliances and advising stakeholders on partnering strategies

+ Outstanding organizational, relationship building and influencing skills, with experience working across and influencing in a highly matrixed environment

+ Experienced and comfortable working in a multi-stakeholder environment

+ Resourceful, innovative thinker comfortable with ambiguity and demonstrated creative problem solving skills

+ High level of autonomy, self-motivated with a track record of on-time delivery in complex and often ambiguous situations and within tight timelines

+ Excellent relationship building and influencing skills with a wide range of stakeholders from bench scientists to senior leadership. Must be a confident, respectful, respected and energetic self-starter who is able to multitask, work across global sites and work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

+ Ability to proactively identify opportunities for process improvement

+ Effective communication skills (written and oral in English & Chinese)



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ PhD, MBA, JD, PharmD or equivalent

+ Experience in an academic business office (technology transfer and/or licensing office)

+ Familiarity with Pfizer organization and processes, including an in depth understanding of Pfizer's alliance activities, processes and practices

+ Familiarity with biomedical research communities in Asia Pacific, China in particular

+ Ability to work in flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of a global working team spanning multiple time zones

+ Flexibility for moderate amount of travel - mostly within the region
