Salary Range: $5,402 - $6,904/Monthly

 

Work Schedule:Full-Time, Monday - Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.; Non-exempt classification.

 

Essential Job Functions: Under the direction of the Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the performance of the full range of skilled work in the painting, finishing and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. Incumbent prepares surfaces for painting and finishing; applies under coats and finish coats using a full range of application methods including brush, roll, spray and electro-static spray; hangs paper; mixes and matches paints and finishes; performs sand and water blasting; erects scaffolding and/or hangs rigging from electronic staging for painting projects; paints signs and parking lot/roadway markings; advises in the selection and storage of painting materials; inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspects related work performed by contractors; estimates cost, time and materials for painting projects; participates in the maintenance and operation of a paint shop; cleans and maintains painting and finishing materials, tools and equipment used in the performance of duties; performs work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a safe and clean work environment; maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized recordkeeping systems; prepares standard reports; and consults and works with other trade workers. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials such as paint thinners, lead and asbestos.

 

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience: The incumbent must possess a valid California Driver License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to operate. The incumbent must have thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, drywall, and paperhanging; and applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California. The incumbent must have the ability to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately; mix paints and finishes and match colors; erect and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders; select the most appropriate materials; read,interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time and materials; maintain records and retrieve data using manual and computerized record keeping systems; prepare standards reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; perform arithmetic calculations; and an interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.
