Texas NeuroRehab Center (TNC) provides complex medical and brain injury rehab, chemical dependency treatment for adults and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applications for a Pharmacy Technician. The pharmacy technician will assist the pharmacists in the filling of medication orders as prescribed by physicians for patients of all ages. To maintain the pharmacy work area and pharmacy inventory. To deliver pharmaceuticals to the patient care unit. To assist with the required record keeping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Must actively support the mission, philosophy, and goals for the hospital.
  • Must be able to communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.
  • Assist pharmacist in filling medications ordered by physicians. Enter new orders in the pharmacy computer system, pull medications from the shelf for review by the pharmacist, and deliver the filled orders to the patient care areas.
  • Maintain the pharmacy inventory in a safe and cost effective manner, ordering correct quantities of medication from the drug wholesaler, checking in orders, checking expiration dates of product on shelves, and returning unused products for credit by manufactureres and drug wholesalers.
  • Assist the pharmacist with quality improvement activities completing audits of medication rooms and gathering data as requested by the Staff Pharmacist or Directory of Pharmacy.
  • Maintain patient billing files in the pharmacy computer correctly and prepare biling charge diskettes each day.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit milieu, and hospital mission and philosophy.
  • And other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Good verbal and written skills. Knowledge of basic computer keyboard with some familiarity with computer technology and programs. Able to maintain confidentiatlity of patient information. Strong attention to detail. Able to concentrate on task for extended periods of time. Able to accurately enter data for six to seven hours daily.

Education:High school graduate or equivalency.

Licensure/Certification:None required but must complete a facility approved Pharmacy Technician Education Program. Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred.

Experience:None required. One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician or Medication Administration Technician is preferred.

Physical/GeneralRequirements:Able to sustain physical acitivity for eight hours per day. Able to lift, lower, push and pull 50 punds (i.e. recieving, storing, and distributing medications and supplies). Able to stand, walk, and reach for 80-90% of the time (i.e. dispensing medications). Able to bend, stoop, and perform a full range of body motions. Able to use the telephone for extended periods of time. Able to frequently use hands and fine motor skills (typing, preparing and dispensing medications, and equipment maintenance). Able to frequently write legibly, using grammatically correct structure (i.e. documenting and maintaining records, drug profiels, etc.) Able to use the computer for extended periods of time. Able to hear, verbally communcicate/speak clearly, and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions. Emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions and deal with changing priorities. Regular and predicitable attendance.
