The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for answering incoming calls/completing outbound calls to/from patients, physicians and pharmacists while ensuring a high level of customer service and maximizing productivity.

Positions in this function perform various duties related to the fulfillment of prescription orders. Interprets physicians' prescriptions and creates order, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer system, verifies whether order is reimbursable. Dispenses any or all of the following: unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals and injectables, compounds medications. Consults with customers, patients and/or physicians regarding use of medications and potential drug interactions. Consultations are telephonic. Reviews and approves/denies requests for prescription prior authorizations. Pharmacists must have a current license without restrictions and Pharmacy Technicians must have current state license or national certification without restrictions based on regulatory requirements of worksite.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Entering prescriptions and verifying appropriate information
  • Contacting patients and doctor's offices to aid pharmacist in confirming prescription order.
  • Processing prescriptions (from intake to order completion)
  • Resolving customer issues; ensuring accurate information is provided
  • Constantly meet established productivity, schedule adherence, and quality standards while maintaining a good attendance record
  • Pharmacy technician experience preferred
  • Aseptic technique working in a clean room preparing IV sterile compounds provides an excellent background
  • Moderate work experience within own function.
  • Some work is completed without established procedures.
  • Basic tasks are completed without review by others.
  • Supervision/guidance is required for higher level tasks

Requirements:

  • High school education/GED
  • At least 6 months of pharmacy/ prescription data entry experience
  • Willing to obtain National Pharmacy Certification (PTCB) within 90 days of hire

Soft Skills:

  • Available to work 40 hours per week and overtime as required according to the needs of the business
  • Ability to remain focused and productive each day though tasks may be repetitive

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Frequent speaking, listening using a headset, sitting, use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse, handling other objects, long periods of close vision looking at a computer monitor
  • Service center environment with moderate noise level due to Representatives talking, computers, printers, floor activity
