Technical Lead for GPO Programmability

As an individual contributor inside Ciscos Global Partner Organization, youll be part of a team that fosters great relationships with a diverse partner community around the world.  Utilizing APIs across a wide variety of Cisco products, in addition to third-party products, this role has become a key enabler for profitable partner services.   As a technical lead, youll develop strategies to help partners flatten the technical learning curve of code writing for lifelong infrastructure engineers, help partners develop the processes and non-technical personnel needed to grow services practices based on newly curated software development skills, and shine a light on partners that are doing all those things to encourage others to do the same.

Skills youll need

An extensive programming background is a must for this role, as well as experience with Python and a variety of Cisco APIs, which is strongly preferred as is some form of DevNet Certification.  Understanding HTTP as it is used for REST APIs down to the request/response header level is vital.  Knowledge of support processes, API telemetry, data analytics, and places where the experience of using Cisco APIs could improve are all extremely useful in this role.  This role also benefits from an awareness of the developer experience and relevant PaaS services available from public cloud providers and how to apply both when interacting with Cisco APIs.

Being able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, across a spectrum of cultures and levels of technical knowledge is key.  It is not uncommon in this role to explain the basic tenants of APIs one day and the next answer partner engineer questions about how to authenticate against an API.  A comfort level with speaking at quarterly events and occasional video production is preferred to help partners more easily digest  complex messages.

The ability to scale ideas and influence others to execute on them is crucial for this role, as is conveying to various executives at both Cisco and the external partners about the importance of programmability within their business.  Listening and learning about activities being conducted by Ciscos regional partner organizations and spotting opportunities to extend good ideas to global audiences is an important aspect of this role.  Its about cultivating this larger programmability ecosystem and encouraging others to do the same.

This role is the primary judge for the widely popular Cisco Partner Innovation Challenge, where partners submit eligible solutions at varying stages of completeness for recognition and cash prizes.  The ability to assess solutions, defend their effectiveness, and provide feedback is crucial for this aspect of this role.  Winners are announced at Ciscos annual Partner Summit event, which involves heavy interaction with a number of communications teams and executives.

Who Youll Work With

This role works closely with the DevNet team on aspects of the business, such as Certification, Specialization, training, events, and go -to-market activities.  GPO works tirelessly with Sales Engineers and Partner Account Managers from around the world.  Interacting with Cisco field and BE resources to get consistency in programmability messaging is an engagement cornerstone for success. In addition, this role assists GPO to engage with learning partners to scale training, often co-delivering early versions of new classes.
