ROLE SUMMARY

BioMedicine Design's Antibody Engineering Group, based at Pfizer's Center for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) San Francisco, is seeking a Principal Scientist to discover and engineer therapeutic proteins. The candidate will be an essential member of the Biomedicine Design - The Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI) - California Protein Engineering Group and will have a demonstrated record of leading drug discovery programs. He/she will use molecular biology expertise, phage/yeast display, protein expression, purification and biological characterization in the development of protein therapeutics .



ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of protein therapeutic discovery and optimization including antibody selection, screening, characterization, removal of liabilities, humanization and affinity maturation.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



+ A PhD Degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related life science discipline

+ 5+ years post PhD experience in laboratory research, preferably in an industry setting

+ Strong molecular biology skills including DNA subcloning, cDNA library building, DNA mutagenesis design and PCR techniques

+ Experience in assay development, including protein-protein binding assays, ELISA and Western blot

+ Working experience with phage and/or yeast antibody display libraries is required

+ Experience designing panning and screening strategies that will enable the selection of desirable antibodies/peptides against targets

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ It is essential for the individual to work with other group members as a team

+ Strong publication record



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



+ Next Generation Sequencing experience is a plus

+ Experience in protein expression, purification and characterization is a plus.



PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS



+ Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis
