**ROLE SUMMARY**

Pfizer Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) is within the Oncology division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development in La Jolla, CA. CID is dedicated to developing new protein therapeutics to improve human life by redirecting the immune system against cancer. CID researchers apply the latest scientific knowledge and novel approaches to discover truly innovative Immuno-Oncology therapeutics.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Discovery and evaluation of novel mechanisms of tumor resistance to innate and adaptive immunity

+ Design and execution of cell-based functional and biochemical assays to select candidate molecules for clinical development.

+ Design and execution of drug mechanism of action studies using in vivo mouse models and ex vivo methods, such as cell sorting, multi-color flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, complex human tumor/stroma/immune cell 3D assays, and human and mouse primary cell culture.

+ Manage independent research program with no supervision

+ Analyze and communication of research results to team and company



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Ph.D. with 4+ years of post-graduate experience

+ Demonstrated expertise in the field of immunology, cell biology and/or genetics

+ Ability to independently design, plan and execute and interpret experiments

+ Ability to manage an independent research program with no supervision

+ Ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to key stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

+ Ability to actively contribute scientifically to immunological drug discovery research programs, including identification and validation of novel targets through CRISPR approaches, data mining (TCGA, single cell RNA sequencing data).

+ Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, good verbal and written communication, and strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic.

+ Ability to represent development teams and communicate goals/deliverables to senior management and/or governance committees.



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Prior experience working with or leading collaborations with external academic, biotechnology, and contract research organizations.

+ Prior experience working with cross-functional teams including In vivo pharmacology, Bioinformatics, Protein therapeutics, Chemistry, Biomarker and Clinical teams.Experience in mentoring and/or leading Ph.D. level and non-Ph.D. level scientists.



**PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS**



+ Standing, sitting, bending, lifting, walking in a laboratory or vivarium setting.

+ Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in a BSL-2 laboratory; additional PPE requirements when working in vivarium barrier suites.

+ Standard business office conditions; sitting, standing as appropriate

+ Infrequent travel (generally other Pfizer sites or professional meetings)



**NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS**

Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, repetitive pipetting, ability to perform mathematical calculations, ability to read, understand, and perform written protocols, and ability to perform moderately complex data analysis using Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism or other similar data analysis software.

Occasional off-hour and weekend schedule.
