Beta Product Manager

Manager, Customer Insights

Job Description:

The Beta Product Manager works cross-functionally with various internal groups involved in the pre-release customer testing programs and directly with customers selected to participate in a program. The Beta Product Manager will set beta strategy, design the beta test, provide recruitment, screening and account management to beta customers; ensure timely testing and reporting of feedback, and customer referenceability. The person will manage inter-organizational activities to ensure conformance to beta process and product quality. The Beta Product Manager (BPM) will provide reports and recommendations to the program team and Security Business Group (SBG) management regarding product and infrastructure market readiness.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set the beta strategy and schedule; own accountability for market readiness assessment at the conclusion of the beta.
  • Manage the process of the beta product testing by customers in the beta program.
  • Work with existing Beta Product Management and within the parameters of the Cisco SBG beta best practices process.
  • Learn the new product’s features and functionality and publish a beta plan with test cases and other beta requirements to be signed by the stakeholders.
  • Manage the beta schedule and budget.
  • Act as a company representative in customer conference calls and meetings to solicit beta feedback.
  • Track and champion beta customer issues with the larger team.
  • Maintain strong ties with testers and provide a ready pool of repeat beta customers.
  • Perform analysis of beta customer activity and feedback leveraging all available resources.
  • Assist and improve the effectiveness of tracking and reporting beta feedback.
  • Ensure appropriate test coverage to stated goals for the beta test period.
  • Provide customer references.
  • Communicate product and infrastructure readiness information to the Company at beta end.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degree desirable
  • 8 – 10 years’ high tech industry experience; domain expertise highly desired.
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong oral and written communicator with proven expertise in customer management
  • Previous experience in one or more of the following roles: Product Management, and/or Customer Support is desirable.
  • Able to quickly learn assigned Cisco SBG’s products and features and be immediately productive.
  • Able to work without close supervision, to develop and execute Cisco SBG’s beta program/process plans, to work closely with development, customer support and sales, and to effectively prioritize a large workload.
