Job Description

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral health care for adolescents, adults and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. We are a 130-bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. Founded in 1967, PIW combines the rich traditions of its past with the behavioral health options of the present. We are an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare.


Job Requirements

Incumbents in the position will be responsible for the following:

• Ability to provide sound therapeutic intervention.

• Interacts with patients in a purposeful and goal-directed manner. Interacts therapeutically with patients and demonstrates an understanding of basic principles of human behavior.

• Verbalizes and demonstrates an awareness of the influences of behavior and personality of self and other staff on patient’s progress.

• Ability to provide psycho educational groups. • Demonstrates technical skills in use of physical restraints and seclusion with attention to patients and staff safety.

• Observes patient behavior and promptly detects behavior that may result in injury to patient and others.

• Attends educational programs/classes directed towards meeting stated objectives for professional growth.

• Ability to establish and maintain a therapeutic working relationship with family members for the purpose of support, guidance, and communication in the plan of care.

• Performs patient care procedures, such as vital signs, specimen collection, with technical skill, accuracy, and in a supportive manner.

• Performs and ensures admission procedures are carried out efficiently and in a supportive manner.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field such as Psychology or Social Services. Or equivalent experience and high school or associates degree in lieu of Bachelor's degree. 

Minimum of one or two years experience in a job-related field in a clinical/healthcare setting.
