Sales and Account Management leadership for the UHC Public Sector & Labor segment at the market level.  This role is responsible for broker/consultant and direct sales to Public Sector and Labor customers.  Responsible for the overall sale of new business, existing business growth, and the retention of existing accounts.  Additionally, in this role the VP may have responsibility for managing a limited number of high-profile customers. This position will be accountable for the maintenance, growth, profitability and persistency of new and existing business, the renewal and acquisition of new business on existing accounts, customer satisfaction and the strategic direction of assigned accounts. 


Competencies: 


Product Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of the products, solutions and funding capabilities that are relevant to meeting the needs of Public and Labor sector 

 

Healthcare and Industry Knowledge

 

  • Prior experience in working with Public Sector, or Labor customers in strongly preferred, but not a requirement
  • Understands goals, operating principles, strategies and competitive position of UHC 
  • In-depth healthcare knowledge, understands important trends 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of competitors strengths, weaknesses and strategies 
  • Understands value of medical management operations and strategies and can communicate their impact and value on -total cost of care- 

 

Financial and Underwriting

 

  • Understands financing methodologies and strategies (Fully Insured and ASO) 
  • Thorough knowledge of UHC underwriting principles and practices 
  • Strong skills around applying the math behind healthcare economics to delivering a value proposition to Public and Labor sector employers
  • Ability to explain and justify a renewal rate to customers 
  • Understands the drivers of fees and liabilities 
  • Possesses strong skills around applying the math behind healthcare economics to delivering a value proposition to Public and Labor sector employers

 

Internal Operations and Capabilities

 

  • Understands UHC information systems capabilities and strategies
  • Understands the strategic importance and value of information systems to deliver client value 
  • Ability to navigate and drive in a highly matrixed internal operating environment in order to meet client needs and meet enterprise objectives 

 

Responsibilities: 


Management 

 

  • Participate in the management and monitoring of producer and client assignments
  • Participate in the training of sales and account management staff around specific skills for success in the Public and Labor sectors
  • Maintain an acceptable office close ratio per management direction 
  • Maintain an acceptable level of persistency in the teams book of business 
  • Assist in the recruiting, hiring and monitoring of sales staff 
  • Assist in the development and management of staff
  • Help set and direct sales/AM team strategy to achieve goals 
  • Direct and manage sales plans and collaborate in the design and delivery of service plans 
  • Sales forecasting

  Relationship Building

 

  • Build and maintain key client and producer relationships 
  • Develop and maintain key internal relationships 
  • Present a positive image of UHG to the marketplace
