Address targeted questions from our key stakeholders and/or business partners, as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), with respect to virtual prototyping and analysis of PepsiCos packaging through Computer Aided Design (CAD), dynamic structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and related modeling and simulation.
Provide design/analysis technical support on packaging projects by applying practical FEA and empirical models to enable faster learning and development of new packaging structures.
Conduct rapid technical feasibility evaluation of differentiated packaging concepts and emerging technologies. Plan, execute and document results of design evaluation and analysis for new packaging technologies to ensure products can be successfully effectuated within the Global PepsiCo system.
Accelerate package innovation by supporting PepsiCos packaging industrial Design Center partnerships with technical guardrails and early design FEA screening (NY, Chicago, and PepsiCo regional Design Center Teams), and identify potential commercially viable packaging innovation opportunities through the collaboration.
Support Brand Stewardship initiatives from the Commercialization team by conducting package FEA to address in-field technical requirements (form/fit/function optimization).
Help to advance PepsiCos modeling and simulation toolkit as a FEA Subject Matter Expert, by continuing to establish virtual analysis capabilities in high impact areas throughout package life cycle.
As a member of Beverage Packaging R&D, scout and substantiate short to mid-term innovation opportunities, with Marketing, Global Procurement & intensive supplier and vendor interaction.
Lead technical connectivity with Open Innovation and Sustainability teams to identify potential synergies to improve packaging post-use recovery and recyclability, in line with PepsiCos Performance with Purpose (PwP) goals.
Maintain open communication and build strong relationships with multiple functions to accelerate packaging innovation: PepsiCos Design Center Teams, Marketing, R&D, Global Procurement, and Supply Chain Development Teams. Protect PepsiCos Intellectual Property, technical information and materials provided to third parties (e.g. consultants, vendors, suppliers, OEMs on collaborative packaging R&D projects) by ensuring proper procedures are conducted and parties are contractually obligated to follow by PepsiCos legal policies as necessary.


Masters degree (US or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical, Packaging Engineering or related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role. Prior experience must include three (3) years of experience with: explicit Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software: ABAQUS or LS-Dyna or ANSYS; using static and dynamic structural FEA methods for structural evaluation; Applying fundamental physics and structural engineering principles of Solid Mechanics and Strength of Materials in technical problem solving; R&D communication to non-technical cross functional groups; material testing, and characterization (ASTM recommended tensile test, compression test). Prior experience must include two (2) years of experience with: engineering Computer Aided Design software: SolidWorks or CATIA; R&D project management, organizational, and technical communication skills with vendors; statistical methods and Design of Experiments. Prior experience must include one (1) year of experience with: Utilize knowledge of contemporary beverage packaging design/development process, manufacturing methods, and materials to enable rapid FEA screening of packages; model scripting (Fortran, Python) for use in FEA; polymer based package manufacturing simulation; and, analytical software Matlab. Travel required 30% of the time.
