Based in Atlanta, the customer service and sales group provides nuclear power, government, university and commercial laboratories with reference and calibration standards, sources, and proficiency tests to support quality measurements traceable to national standards.

The Job

Eckert & Ziegler Analytics seeks a Radiochemist I who will be responsible for manufacture of radioactive calibration standards and performance test samples in various matrices (e.g., liquid, solid, soil, vegetation, filters, gasetc.). Other duties include maintenance of chemical and radionuclide inventories, laboratory equipment, supplies and work environment.


  • Manufactures NIST-traceable radioactive calibration standards.
  • Manufactures check sources and proficiency testing samples.
  • Operates laboratory equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Reviews and signs Certificates of Calibration for manufactured standards.
  • Performs contamination control in support of Health Physics in restricted areas.
  • Operates nuclear counting equipment.


  • Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: 4-year degree in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Nuclear Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum experience required: No job experience required. Recent university graduate is welcome.
  • Abilities and skills required:
    1. General wet laboratory experience (analytical balance operation, dilutions, pipetting).
    2. Experience in preparation and handling of chemical solutions, including microgram level concentrations using pipetting and semi-micro analytical balances for gravimetric transfers.
    3. Experience in handling standard laboratory equipment and working with containment apparatus such as laboratory hoods and glove boxes.
    4. Good Laboratory Practices including maintenance of both personal and community work areas.
    5. Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, probability, and statistical inference.
    6. Detail oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication.
    7. Ability to work in a team environment with scientific, technical, and administrative staff.
    8. Must be able to read and understand professional documents.
    9. Must maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
    10. General use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and database applications.
    11. Experience with power tools and machinery a plus.
