Job Description:
Directs the Physician & Clinical Documentation Improvement Program of the Nevada region of UHS to include VHS and NNMC. Assumes leadership responsibility for the PDI/CDI program including staffing, scheduling, education, use of technology and employee performance management; collaborates and provides education and feedback to physicians, physician leaders and other VHS staff as needed to achieve compliance and cooperation with continuous improvement of clinical documentation. This position is also responsible for providing clinically based concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records, including specific reviews which are determined internally, as well as by requirements/requests of external payers or regulatory agencies. Program mandates include facilitating appropriate physician documentation of care delivered to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality, and playing a significant role in reporting quality of care outcomes and in obtaining accurate and compliant reimbursement for acute care services.

Job Requirements:

Education:
Associates or Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Graduate of International Medical School.

Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting; critical care, medical/surgical or emergency department preferred. Minimum of two (2) years supervisory/management experience strongly preferred but not required.

Technical Skills:
Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid IPPS-OPPS Payment System; MS-DRGs; and ICD-10-CM & PCS coding systems. Recommended knowledge of 3M 360 and ARMS software applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.

Other:
Knowledge of age-specific needs and elements of disease processes and related procedures required. Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology of disease processes. Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria, Medicare reimbursement system and coding systems preferred, but not required. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently in a time oriented environment is essential.

License:
Must have valid RN License in the State of residence or valid Medical Degree. Preferred certifications: CDIP, CCDS, CCS and/or ICD-10 Certification or Trainer designation.
