Health care research staff members research, analyze, write, and present at least two research studies per year. Studies identify and explore salient issues and industry trends that are of universal and vital importance to the membership. Studies typically examine the forces that have shaped the current state of the industry and offer projections regarding its evolution and future. By modeling best-demonstrated practices and organizational structures of the world's most progressive organizations, studies provide our member institutions with a set of feasible practices and future vision.


Consultants assume an integral role in moving the substance of major research studies and speeches forward and provide intellectual leadership within teams. Consultants provide analytical direction and guidance throughout all stages of study cycle, working through extensive primary and secondary research, hypothesis generation and testing, rigorous analysis of findings, and the final presentation of ideas.


This role is focused on serving Advisory Board health plan clients and leading research related to health plan priorities. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strategic and root cause analysis
  • Inductive and deductive reasoning
  • Hypothesis generation
  • Ability to formulate and defend original points of view
  • Synthesis of complex ideas
  • Persuasive writing
  • Effective use of graphics and visuals to communicate ideas and information
  • Examples of recent research initiatives include:
    • The role health plans should play in addressing social determinants
    • Building a best-in-class member portal
    • 2020 State of the Industry: How health plans can shape the future of health care amid industry transformation
