Retail Strategy and Innovation Director

Upon the quick developments and movements of China Pharma industry especially now under the new government policies, the strategic value and future potentials of Retail business have been recognized more and more clearly.

The Retail Business Strategy and Innovation Director, under Retail Business of Upjohn China will be responsible for converting critical business opportunities into strategic programs of varying complexity and scope across the whole mailand China, which has significant business impact now on Upjohn China.

By bringing strong influencing skill, business analysis, facilitation and effective project management practices, the Director will help to ensure the success of a broad variety of strategic initiatives and conversion of critical opportunities into real actions and platforms.

Typical work of the Director includes developing business insights, analysising opportunities, driving business transformation, building new capabilities, increasing business efficiency efforts, offering internal operational consulting services and re-designing complex processes, etc. The Director will work with Retail leadership team to deliver mid-to-long term expansion strategies and lead the execution processes. Another main focus of work will be projects / programs at Retail Business level such as digital solutions and portfolio management, new business models and access platforms and components of global projects that need to be cascaded down to daily business activities. The Director will also work with Retail Business Head to prepare business update and strategy review to country/ global leaders.

To excel in the job, the Director needs to have a demonstrated understanding of the Retail business. He/She will need to be highly proactive, work collaboratively with other partners, have strong attention to detail along with excellent written, verbal and listening skills, presentation skills, teaming, facilitation, mental agility, influencing and relationship building skills.

The Director uses business knowledge & analysis, change management, processes improvement and continuous improvement methodologies, measurements & tools to analyze issues and drive solutions for Retail Business Upjohn China. The Director obtains deep understanding of Retail country and regional business, collates and prioritizes business needs / opportunities, and develops effective strategic solutions / platforms (which include operating model design, strategy and governance, timelines, resolving conflict across upper management, managing implementation, overseeing change management on business transformations) and becomes a key thought partner of the business lead. The Director serves point of contact to Retail Business projects and converts innovation opportunities into pilots and programs. He/She uses program management, business knowledge, processes improvement, change management, continuous improvement methodologies, measurements & tools to drive efficiency and impact. The colleague will also help identify and prioritize projects that are the most impactful for Retail Business. Strong ability to anticipate roadblocks well before they occur and take action to ensure they don't arise Commercial experience (sales, marketing, commercial operations, etc.) in China Retail or FMCG markets Demonstrated strength business analysis and strategic thinking Extensive experience with aligning seinor business sleaders, facilitating conflict, and communicating information in a way that enables leaders to have transparency on the underlying issues and potential solutions in varying settings including workshops, small group sessions or one-on-one meetings. Work with business lead to manage the process of creation or re-engineering and change management


Indicate qualifications that are job related, consistent with business necessity and necessary for the performance of an essential function of this role including: education/licenses/certifications, relevant experience (where legally permissible), technical and/or other job-related skills.

A minimum of 3 years of operational consulting experience, either internally or at a large external consulting firm 8+ years of overall experience in the Retail or FMCG industry desirable MBA degree or master degree required Fluent in English and Mandarin Excellent oral and written communications capabilities and presentation and facilitation skills Must be able to manage large teams across multiple functions and have a working knowledge of each function Strong interpersonal and influencing capabilities Project Management Institute (PMI) certification preferred Fluent with technology solutions to manage projects including appropriate Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio) and also SharePoint.
