STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS ARE CATEGORIZED UNDER THE JCAHO STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE.

Assessment

  1. Document patient information and nursing care accurately in the provision of nursing services.

  2. Document and reassess any significant changes in the patient's condition in compliance with facility policy.

  3. Report any signs or symptoms of infection in patients to the Infection Control Nurse.

    Intervention

  4. Employ principles of communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving and crisis intervention when performing psychotherapeutic interventions.

  5. Accurately administer medication to patients.

  6. Transcribe and carry out physicians/licensed practitioners treatment orders accurately.

  7. Utilize appropriate interventions in psychiatric and medical emergencies.

    Treatment Planning

  8. Prioritize and formulate a plan of care based on patient assessment and according to policy.

  9. Participate in the development of an interdisciplinary treatment planwith specific and measurable goals, objectives and interventions defining actions unique to each patient's needs.

  10. Update and revise the plan as goals/objectives are met or when the patient's condition changes.

  11. Document both the nursing interventions on the treatment plan and the patients response to the intervention.

    Milieu Management

  12. Assure patients are adequately oriented to the program.

  13. Monitor program activity and encourage patient participation.

  14. Prescribe and coordinate nursing care to patients during episode of care.

  15. Provide structure and maintain a therapeutic environment in collaboration with the patient and other health care providers.

  16. Consistently utilize universal precautionsand environmental safety guidelines.

  17. Conduct structured didactic groups with patients and families.

  18. Utilize self as a role model to promote health communication.

  19. Assist with maintaining a safe environment by use of environmental room checks.

  20. Perform 15 minute checks as directed by policy

Teaching

  1. Participate in orientation of new staff as assigned.

  2. Provide education to patients and families based on their identified needs and limitations, such as, communication, interpersonal and social skills as well as basic principles of physical health.

  3. Provide and document discharge instructions including food and drug interactions, diets and activities as appropriate.

  4. Evaluate and document the effectiveness of all patient teaching.

  5. Provide opportunities for patients and families to question, discuss and explore their feelings about prescribed therapies/interventions/diagnosis.

    Performance Accountability

    Act as the patient's advocate and assure that patient rights are upheld.

    Comply with established measures for infection control, OSHA regulations and risk management.

    Utilize time constructively and in an organized manner to accomplish assigned responsibilities.

    Comply with the employee Code of Ethics.

    Work overtime in a case of emergency or as deemed necessary by supervisor.

    Adhere to facility, department, corporate, HR and standard policies and procedures

    Attend all mandatory facility inservices and staff development activities as scheduled

    Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.

    Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.

    Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information

Specific Standards of the Care of Culturally/Spiritually Diverse Patients

  1. Treats each patient with dignity and respect regardless of differences in personal beliefs, behavior, language, or work ethic based on cultural/spiritual diversity

  2. Maintains a nonjudgmental attitude toward the patients cultural and spiritual belief system (including dietary restrictions, standards of cleanliness, etc.)

  3. Recognizes a difference in communication styles, cultural and spiritual values, and work ethic.Refrains from imposing his/her own code of behaviors on patients from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds

  4. Recognizes his/her own values, beliefs, stereotypes, and biases and does not allow them to impact treatment of patients with differing belief systems

Specific Standards of Performance Customer Service

  1. Consistently applies concepts of good customer relations; interacts with patients, visitors, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner; displays courtesy at all times

  2. Demonstrates good telephone etiquette at all times

  3. Maintains a positive attitude

  4. Promotes teamwork

  5. Willing to go the extra mile

  6. Receives no customer complaints concerning attitude or job performance

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years experience in a psychiatric health-care facility preferred.

Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Must have a valid driver's license.

Additional Requirements: CPR/First Aide/ HWC, within 30 days of employment. Must pass a medication administration exam and complete a basic ::
