Texas NeuroRehab Center (TNC) provides complex medical and brain injury rehab, chemical dependency treatment for adults and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab is currently accepting applications for aRegistered Nurse - PRN.As an RN you willprovide direct patient care as prescribed by the physician and treatment team. Provide medical management and assessment of patients. Ensure environmental safety and crisis management for the patient population. Direct the implementation of medical management programs and ensure consistent carry-through. Provide task assignments to subordinates & monitor their performance of duties. Provide training & education to staff, patients, families, & others. Document patient care, ensure that data is accurate, & that it is included in the master treatment plan via timely nursing care plan updates. Work with the treatment team to provide a consistently therapeutic milieu.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

  2. Must actively support the mission, philosophy, and goals for the hospital.

  3. Must be able to communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.

  4. Ensure that medication & treatment are administered as prescribed. Documentation reflects the care provided.

  5. Provide and direct milieu management, actively assists therapists, keeping safety foremost.

  6. Document nursing care and treatment progression through timely & accurate chart entries & nursing care plan updates.

  7. Ensure LVNs complete Nursing Care Plan updates accurately & on time. Sign LVN Care Plan updates. Follow through with all facility & statutory requirements.

  8. Assess, direct, and intervene in crisis situations.

  9. Actively participate in treatment team decisions, collect & include data in care plan updates, assess patient needs, and document / evaluate patient responses.

  10. Model age, growth, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic communication in all interactions.

  11. Exhibit regular and required attendance.

  12. Maintain professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit program, and hospital mission / philosophy.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, & interventions with patients. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties. Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects. Ability to safely implement Special Treatment Procedures. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current Drivers License or State issued Id. Current State of Texas Registered Nurse License. Current CPR certification. RN,C; CRRN preferred.

EXPERIENCE: One year of inpatient medical surgery, medical rehabilitation experience preferred

PHYSICAL/GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to sustain physical activity throughout scheduled shift. Able to remain on feet throughout scheduled shift. Able to lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance. Able to push patients in wheel chairs up and down hills and pursue running patients. Able to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilets, & vehicles. Verbal skills to communicate to deescalate a crisis situation. Writing skills to accurately convey patient behavior and status. Visual observation skills so as to convey verbally & in writing patient behavior. Writing skills to include legibility and correct grammar to convey patient behavior and other information in the patient chart. Ability to assist in direct patient care from prompting through total care (i.e. bath, diapering). Able to feed patients. Regular / required attendance. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions. Emotional stability and ability to deal with changing priorities.
